Biogen’s strategy is to discover, develop and deliver innovative therapies that improve the lives of patients with devastating neurodegenerative, such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Neuromuscular Disease (NMD).

You will be responsible for leading and representing the Global Medical team for Biogen’s extending portfolio in Neuromuscular with a focus on ECP specific needs and opportunities for the Medical function.

This will mostly encompass according Medical expertise, strategy, planning and execution in order to support and help prepare the ECP organization from a Medical Science perspective for the currently approved and anticipated introduction of new medicines in these new disease area- in the coming years, and with a special emphasis on ECP real-world medical needs and health care setting conditions in the various ECP geographies in alignment with the Global Medical strategy.

This will require a wide range of internal cross- and intra-functional as well as cross-geographical stakeholder collaboration and coordination you will guide, plan and execute according deliverables relevant for the ECP Medical function. You will e.g. be in charge of Medical data generation and dissemination plans, medical information, education and internal training sub-functions. It will also require appropriate external stakeholder partnerships for medical science and expertise (including thought leader/medical experts; research centers, investigators, etc) as needed andappropriate for the externally focused domains of ECP Medical. Furthermore, in this role you will coordinate the ECP MSL team.

You will:

1. Build ECP medical science expertise of the Biogen NMD Portfolio :

This means you will provide medical science expertise as needed and appropriate to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

2. Guide on and plan ECP Regional Medical strategies and tactics that help prepare the anticipated introduction of new medicines, working cross-functionally with key internal partner functions to address the medical needs in the ECP region, and to help generate according comprehensive datageneration and dissemination plans for the region.

3. Develop and manage an according ECP external medical experts network relevant to the new disease areas and portfolio of medicines, to ensure relevant and appropriate integration of accruing external Medical expertise for ECP.

4. Lead ECP Medical field based team to ensure full alignment with Global strategy and support better understanding of current local challenges and clinical practice needs for  patients

5. Support, author and review ECP relevant Medical activities, e.g. data generation (clinical studies), medical dissemination (publications, medical communications), as well as market access medical portions, medical training and education deliverables meet the ECP regional needs and priorities.

6. Support Global Medical Team on the operational and resourcing (capabilities) model to best enable the ECP Medical Science function to continuously govern in a proficient, effective and efficient manner in these new disease areas and in view of the extending portfolio.

• MD or Phd
• Minimum of 5+ years or otherwise sufficient evidence therapeutic experience and expertise with Medical Affairs activities in NMD.
• Background/experience in NMD required as well as the scientific and social acumen to develop strong scientific collaborations with Thought leaders/experts in the according therapeutic areas.
• Strong matrix collaboration and leadership skills, people management and profound knowledge of EU pharmaceutical medicine (drug development, medical function)
• Exceptional ability to organize, manage and motivate are key competencies for this role.
• Fluent in English
