The Genetic & Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Unit at Biogen has an opening for a talented and highly motivated Associate Scientist. Our unit focuses on translational research of genetic and neurodevelopmental disorders and is responsible for the discovery, validation, and development of new drug targets into novel disease-modifying therapies.

Job Description

The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in a variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques to support drug discovery projects for neurodevelopmental disorders. The selected individual is expected to work with his/her supervisor to carefully design and execute experiments, as well as analyzing and presenting acquired data. This position requires expertise in in vitro and ex vivo electrophysiology, whole-cell patch clamp techniques, animal handling, tissue collection and dissection as well as downstream histological or biochemical analyses.  The selected individual will work in a cross-functional environment and collaborate with other teams regularly. This individual is expected to clearly communicate data to a broader audience at team meetings and in written reports.

Qualifications

 Basic scientific knowledge of neuroscience, preferentially in neurocircuitry and synaptic physiology.

Strong capabilities in designing, performing, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting data based on scientific questions.

Able to troubleshoot experiments independently.

Expertise in whole-cell patch clamp in acute brain slices and cultured neurons.

Expertise in rodent handling and basic injection techniques, brain tissue collection and dissection, immunohistochemistry, and biochemical analysis.

Experience with cell culture and aseptic techniques preferred.

Experience in ex vivo or in vitro calcium imaging preferred.

Strong interpersonal, organization and communication skills, ability to clearly communicate data and maintain detailed written reports.

Associate Scientist II level:

·       Bachelors in Scientific discipline with 0-2 years relevant experience

Associate Scientist III level:

·       Bachelors in Scientific discipline with 2-4 years relevant experience OR Masters Degree in Scientific Discipline with 0-2 years relevant experience

 

Candidate will be hired at level commensurate with experience
