Job Description

The successful candidate will support development, optimization, qualification, execution, and troubleshooting of diverse bioassays to characterize both recombinant protein and gene therapy product development in the Analytical Development department at Biogen.

Responsibilities:

The individual will develop, qualify, and perform impurity, binding, and cell-based assays to measure levels of residual impurities (host DNA, protein, process-related), target binding, functional potency, and expression, with a focus on both innovator and biosimilar programs.

Responsibilities include data analysis, report writing, and reviewing, as well as delivering internal technical presentations. The individual will also be involved in new technology evaluation and implementation.

Qualifications

Associate Scientist II

Required Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or related Biological Sciences; 0+ years of experience

  • Knowledge of molecular or cell biology is required.
  • Experience with bioassays in 96-well format and multichannel pipetting is required

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in assay development and/or method troubleshooting is desirable.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis for biological assays, automation, and phase appropriate assay qualification is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with primer design, restriction digestion, DNA electrophoresis, PCR, Western and Southern blotting, flow cytometry, FRET, AlphaScreen, and fluorescence microscopy is desirable. 

Associate Scientist III:

Required Skills:  

Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or related Biological Sciences; 2+ years of experience

Masters degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or related Biological Sciences preferred; 0+ years of experience.

  • Strong experience in molecular or cell biology is required.
  • Experience in assay development and/or method troubleshooting as well as experience with bioassays in 96-well format and multichannel pipetting is required.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis for biological assays, automation, and phase appropriate assay qualification is required

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous work with AAV, lentivirus or hands-on experience in transgenic cell line generation is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with primer design, restriction digestion, DNA electrophoresis, PCR, Western and Southern blotting, flow cytometry, FRET, AlphaScreen, and fluorescence microscopy is desirable. 

Additional Information

The ideal candidate is a fast learner with strong scientific curiosity, creative problem-solving skills, good interpersonal skills, and pays attention to detail. In addition, the candidate should have excellent laboratory, computer, documentation and organizational skills, as well as good communication abilities who enjoys working independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.  Candidates with industry experience preferred.
