Job Description

This is for a 10-12 week internship position from June - August 2021.

Through cutting-edge science and medicine, Biogen discovers, develops and delivers worldwide innovative therapies for people living with serious neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. Founded in 1978, Biogen is a pioneer in biotechnology and today has the leading portfolio of medicines to treat multiple sclerosis, has introduced the first and only approved treatment for spinal muscular atrophy and is at the forefront of neurology research for conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Biogen also manufactures and commercializes biosimilars of advanced biologics.

The Global Value & Access (V&A) team develops strategies to partner with payers worldwide, with the goal of enabling broad and rapid access to Biogen’s therapies. The V&A team develops the clinical and economic value story for Biogen’s products, works with Clinical and Medical colleagues to ensure payer-relevant evidence generation through clinical trials and Phase IV studies, and conducts key research studies to identify and fill evidence gaps to support the value of Biogen’s medicines. In a complex and ever-evolving global reimbursement landscape, the V&A team is responsible for monitoring market trends and optimizing the value of Biogen’s assets and delivery of product to patients.

Position Description

The Global V&A team is looking for an intern to support the Immunology pipeline. This individual will work cross-functionally with members of the Clinical Development, Medical, Regulatory and Early and External Product Commercialization teams to execute on a strategically aligned project. Key responsibilities will vary based on the intern’s project, but examples may include:

  • Literature review to gather (1) evidence supporting use of various clinical trial endpoints, or (2) key burden of illness evidence
  • Analyzing medical claims data to assess cost of illness / health resource utilization for a disease area
  • Developing a patient survey instrument to assess impact of disease on quality of life
  • Managing the development of a cost-effectiveness model, and/or conducting a literature review to identify potential data inputs
  • Development of an analysis plan to quantify meaningful change of a patient-reported outcome

Qualifications

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

Education

  • Enrolled in a PhD program in a pharmacy, economics or life sciences field.
  • Concentration in health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) or related field is highly preferred
  • Academic experience (either undergraduate or graduate) in HEOR or economics is a plus
