Company Description

Biogen is seeking a highly motivated molecular and cellular biologist to join the Bioassays & HTS group within the Biotherapeutic & Medicinal Sciences department. Our group develops and runs bioassays to support development of structure-activity relationships (SAR), executes high-throughput screens (HTS), and qualifies small molecules in secondary and functional assays as part of a collaborative team of biologists and medicinal chemists working to invent drugs to treat patients with devastating neurological disorders.

Job Description

The primary responsibilities for this position are development and implementation of innovative phenotypic, cell-based and biochemical assays using cutting edge high-throughput technologies, as well as application of data analysis tools to assess biological activity and assay performance.  It is preferred that the candidate have experience with neurobiology and be familiar with microplate-based cell culture and automated liquid handling. The successful candidate will accomplish our mission through open communication, innovation, teamwork, creative problem solving, and state-of-the-art assay science and laboratory automation.

  • Design, optimize, and develop bioassays and perform comprehensive data analysis using specialized software to process HTS and concentration-response data (e.g., TIBCO Spotfire, Genedata Screener).
  • Maintain electronic notebook entries and routine data reporting to support project advancement including collaboration with other parts of the organization.
  • Present work in various group, project team, and departmental meetings.

Qualifications

  • B.S./M.S. with 4-7 years experience or Ph.D. with 0-4 years of experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in diverse assay methods and technologies, such as high-content analysis (confocal microscopy), ELISA, FRET/BRET, AlphaLISA, MSD, qPCR, and flow cytometry in 96, 384 formats.
  • Fluency in software used for plotting and statistical analysis of experimental data
  • Experience using a variety of cell models including handling of primary cells.
  • Familiarity with robotic liquid handlers and automated workstations is preferred.   The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a demonstrated ability to successfully take on challenges and quickly adapt to new responsibilities.
