The Gene Therapy Accelerator Unit (GTxAU) represents Biogen’s center of expertise for the development of next generation therapies based on Adeno-Associated vectors. Our mission is focused on supporting Biogen’s rapidly growing gene therapy pipeline to treat currently untreatable neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory and ophthalmologic disorders by designing and validating clinical candidates as well as leading the development of new technologies to improve efficacy, safety and manufacturing processes. In particular, the GTxAU Production and Purification team is dedicated to the generation of high quality AAV material to support our preclinical programs and to the exploration of innovative modifications of the AAV production processes to improve yield and purity.
Position Description
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the GTxAU Production and Purification. The position represents an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the fast-growing gene therapy field. The incumbent will support the production process for pipeline projects as well as the validation of pre-identified molecular targets with the potential to make a significant impact on the AAV manufacturing process both at the preclinical and clinical level. Day-to-day responsibilities will include molecular cloning, tissue culture-related activities, use of chromatography systems for AAV purification and characterization of the material generated by ddPCR, qPCR and/or western blot. In addition, he/she should be able to assist with data analysis and interpretation, maintain accurate electronic records and effectively present their work at team meetings.
Qualifications
To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
· Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
· Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred
· At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
· Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Additional qualifications for the role:
- Experience with basic lab techniques (PCR, qPCR, western blot)
- Familiarity with general tissue culture techniques
- Strong team player attitude
- Proven ability to multitask
- Good communication skills
- Previous working experience with AAV or gene therapy vectors is preferred
Education:
BSc in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related disciplines
