Job Description

  • The incumbent will provide compliance and execution support across the company to ensure Biogen adheres to internal procedures, guidance, and applicable regulations regarding global import / export activity.
  • Key contributor to the global document retention and reporting program with customs brokers and agents changing the way we operate at Biogen. They will be responsible for assisting with developing, implementing and maintaining local or regional working instructions.
  • Acts as a company advisory providing subject matter expertise and support on topics relevant to customs brokers, agents, and customs authorities.  Provide back-up support for global trade operations.
  • Champions trade compliance focused on establishing and maintaining the reporting, monitoring and document retention program with global manufacturing sites, customs brokers and agents at Biogen; actively communicating to all levels of the organization regarding the importance of the program.
  • Participate at regular business reviews with service providers to review metrics, business strategy, new regulations, and partner towards mutual improvement.
  • Performs data analytics of trade compliance data for import / export shipments.
  • Maintains import and export procedures and working instructions globally to ensure compliance with local and foreign customs laws, regulations and administrative practices.
  • Collaborate on building effective and sustainable trade compliance processes with the manufacturing sites (internal and external CMOs).
  • Performs trade compliance monitoring of cross-border transaction according to countries risk indicator plan.
  • Ensures export / import declarations are received according to Biogen record keeping procedure and are correctly filled to match the underlying transaction (e.g. customs invoice) in accordance with international government regulations (as applicable).
  • Identify areas of non-compliance, potential compliance risks and collaborate with business partners (internal / external) to put corrective actions in place.
  • Records monitoring results and communicate results to internal / external teams.
  • Internal KPIs tracking on customs brokers and CMOs customs performance.
  • Partners closely with Tax, Finance, and Logistics groups and provides operational input into supply chain processes.
  • Ensure all of Biogen's operations are conducted in compliance with internal procedures, guidance, and foreign trade laws.  

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in international trade business operations, or data analytics strongly preferred. Formal training in import / export logistics is desired. Minimum Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred

Additional Information

The Specialist, Trade Compliance will liaison with manufacturing sites, customs brokers and agents globally to establish and maintain effective global reporting, monitoring and document retention program; collaborate on conducting regular business reviews (incl. data analytics for Biogen internal processes and external vendors’ performance); implementing and maintaining procedures and instructions.
