Job Description
Biogen is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Scientist I position within its Analytical Development (AD) department. This role is in the next generation analytical sciences group which is focused on in-depth characterization and method development for all therapeutic modalities (small molecules, proteins, gene therapy, and antisense oligonucleotides). The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment to utilize their skills in partnership with internal and external experts to solve complex analytical challenges, primarily in the field of omics.
Job Description:
- Develop, qualify, and implement cutting-edge multi-omics technologies and methods for end-to-end analysis of bioprocesses for quantifying proteins/peptides, post-translational modifications (PTMs), metabolites, and lipids
- Use advanced analytics, chemometrics, and systems biology approaches to identify process bottlenecks and propose improvements to increase productivity and product quality
- Represent analytical development as the omics subject matter expert both internally and externally and provide guidance to collaborators
- Support process innovation through appropriate analytical characterization
- Identify opportunities for automation to increase productivity and gain enhanced process knowledge
- Advance technologies while working in a highly interdisciplinary team-based environment
- Contribute to and lead the preparation of reports, manuscripts, posters, presentations, proposals etc.
The work requires cross-functional interactions and the ability to work independently and creatively to influence stakeholders across the development organization. Excellent technical skills, the ability to think outside of the box, and the ability to drive experiments from proof of concept to implementation are required. The selected individual should be able to clearly communicate their results and accomplishments to a broad audience at team meetings and in written reports. Strong self-motivation and drive to make impactful contributions in a fast-paced environment is critical.
Qualifications
- Direct expertise in the analytical and data analysis aspects for peptide and protein analysis, post-translational modification analysis, proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, etc.
- In-depth knowledge in different types of mass spectrometry and chromatography technologies and data interpretation; hands-on experience with these techniques is a plus.
- Previous experience/knowledge in cell culture/metabolism and/or process development (biologics and/or synthetic chemistry) is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, capabilities in experimental design and execution, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, as well ability to work independently
- Knowledge in other characterization techniques such as NMR, Raman, IR, KF, CE, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to serve as a team member/leader in an environment where individual initiative, collaboration and accountability are valued.
Ph.D. (preferred) in analytical chemistry, chemistry, data analytics, or related discipline with a minimum of 0-3 years’ experience OR MS Degree with a minimum of 6 years’ experience.
