The Biosimilars Business Unit (BBU) is dedicated to the global commercialization of biosimilars across an extended range of therapeutic areas, including dermatology, gastroenterology, rheumatology and lately ophthalmology (retinal vascular diseases).

The Associate Director Scientific Affairs BBU Ophthalmology will support the Global Head of Scientific Affairs BBU to build a scientific affairs infrastructure in ophthalmology in the US and in Europe (and other countries at a later stage).

She/he will be responsible to support the planning and implementation of a global Scientific Affairs strategy, which can be adopted and/or easily adapted to address country-specific needs.

Accountabilities include:

·       Plan strategic imperatives and tactical implementation of educational materials on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis of retinal vascular diseases and their treatment with anti-VEGF biologics/biosimilars as a platform for internal education and external communication

·       Implement educational training courses on retinal vascular diseases across internal functions

·       Develop a matrix of multidisciplinary stakeholders in ophthalmology across the US and Europe (KMEs, hospital- and office-based clinicians, hospital pharmacists, optometrists and nurses) and engage them effectively

Spearhead the planning and implementation of advisory boards and Steering Committee meetings in ophthalmology in the US and Europe

1.       Be abreast of the current understanding on the use of anti-VEGF biologics in retinal vascular diseases and translate findings/insights/data from publications, congresses, f2f discussions with KMEs into educational materials (slide decks, narratives etc.) for internal and external use 

2.       Support strategic scientific communication strategies and tactics across all communication channels to all our external HCP stakeholders

3.       Support the planning and implementation of digital and non-digital tactics that address our communication needs on a global basis in ophthalmology and its 5 retinal vascular disease indications, and support local adaptations that enable us to speak with one voice

4.        Develop a matrix of multidisciplinary stakeholders in ophthalmology (KMEs, raising star residents, office-based clinicians, hospital pharmacists, nurses) in ophthalmology across geographies and engage them effectively

5.       Implement and coordinate educational training courses in retinal vascular diseases across functions internally

• Medical degree, preferably a specialty degree in ophthalmology
• 10 years in Scientific Affairs/communication (industry and/or healthcare agency)
• Excellent medico-scientific knowledge of the clinical/scientific needs of KMEs, clinicians, residents, hospital pharmacists, nurses in ophthalmology and excellent understanding on how to address these needs with an effective, high level of accuracy
• Enthusiastic, solution-oriented team player, highly supportive in reaching global and national/regional goals based on long-term experience 
• Strong people management skills and ability to include, inspire, and engage new team members in the scientific affairs ophthalmology team
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills
