Job Description

The Hosting Capacity Management Platform Owner will drive insights, planning, forecast, measure and cost optimization for all hosting environments as well as:

  1.  Plan and budget Hosting costs/investments (Cloud/Colo/On Premises).
  2. Optimize and minimize spending through rightsizing, modernization, elasticity/scheduling, and purchasing options to make informed cloud/hosting purchasing decisions.
  3. Implement sustainable approaches to managing hosting costs and performance by leveraging internal and external tools/capabilities and vendors.
  4. Implement a consolidated billing and usage reporting (show back). 

The Hosting Capacity Management Platform Owner will work cross- functionally with internal teams to help and support the adoption of best practices, with agility and @scale. This will include generating and providing recommendations on how to optimize the usage of Hosting solutions, working to re-engineer internal people, processes and partners to ensure ongoing success. 

The ideal candidate possesses an economic background and tech savvy that enables driving impact and interact at the highest executive levels with demonstrated ability to think strategically and long-term about the needs of complex global businesses. The role further acts as a liaison and partner between IT and LOBs, representing the Team in operational meetings, project delivery, and other forums where Cloud Platform Engineering representation is required. 

Duties include the following:

  1. Hosting Capacity Management: Evaluate current cost/provisioning process and drive execution of optimization, visibility and continuous improvement initiatives.
  2. Build and leverage existing and new analytical tools to formulate and deliver meaningful recommendations on optimizing hosting usage.
  3. Define strategic metrics and manage platform health, cost, usage and performance according to industry best practices.
  4. Multi-Cloud Capacity Management: Design, build and run the strategy to adopt and maximize multiple cloud/Colo vendors ensuring cost optimization by correctly blending OpEx with CapEx assessment.
  5. Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, service providers and business units on shared goals and projects that satisfy business and IT objectives.

Qualifications

Qualifications include the following:

  • 5-8 years’ experience and technical expertise in hosting financial performance and governance, including exposure to cloud economics, cost performance, utilization and optimization. 

Distinguishing capabilities:

  • Strategic/financial planning for platform engineering roadmaps.
  • Financial background with Technical expertise in multi-cloud management.
  • Strong problem solving and entrepreneurship skills.
  • Financial management, communication and analytical abilities.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent coursework, training, and relevant hands-on industry experiences will be considered.

Additional Information

The Hosting Capacity Management Platform Owner is responsible and accountable for the Hosting Financial Management and Performance Optimization. It’s also accountable for the Design, Build, Operations, and Enhancement of their Platform, managing and optimizing the hosting costs and value to support Biogen’s Hosting Strategy roadmap.
