Job Description

The US Senior Medical Director will lead all medical pre-launch and launch activities in US for the pipeline portfolio with an initial specific focus in ophthalmology and stroke. This leader will report to the VP and head of US medical.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for leading the strategic design and execution of ophthalmology and stroke medical plan and tactics within US.
  2. Collaborate with the Global medical team to ensure the insights, data generation and communication plan are aligned with the US needs and are consistent globally
  3. Represent medical at the US cross-functional launch team (e.g. Commercial, Market Access, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory)
  4. Effectively interacts, collaborates, provide medical/scientific expertise and strategic direction at multiple levels in the organization, including Regional and Global Medical, R&D, Commercial, Regulatory and Program Leadership.
  5. As a content expert, review abstracts, publications and other medical documents as needed
  6. Review all grants and IIT request from US
  7. Demonstrate scientific leadership and represent Biogen at National and International conferences
  8. Develops and manages a thought leader network to support the successful execution of ophthalmology and stroke tactics.
  9. Provide scientific and medical expertise to the medical value strategy and execution group
  10. Identify specific data generation projects to address medical data gaps within US
  11. Ensure the field team is trained and aligned with the medical objectives

Qualifications

MD, PhD, and/or PharmD with pharmaceutical industry experience required (10 years minimum).
•Medical affairs and launch experience in US in required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
• Ability to understand the evolving market access and reimbursement landscape in US
• Ability to work independently yet engages in collaborative decision making, to complete tasks in a timely fashion, and function in a rapid-paced environment
• Strong background in ethical evaluation of clinical research projects, and proven ability to conduct medical and scientific analysis and decision-making
• Ability to effectively operate and lead in a highly matrixed organization
• Strong interpersonal skills and project management skills
• Ability to take initiative and solve complex and challenging problems. Experience in neurosciences is desired
• Experience in ophthalmology is a strong plus

Education: MD, PhD, or other advanced degree in the life sciences
