Job Description

This internship role is part of the Limitless @ Biogen program; the summer internship for neurodiverse college students. ‘Neurodiversity’ includes neurological differences such as autism spectrum, ADHD and dyslexia. Applicants will not be asked for documentation or proof of neurodiversity, unless requesting an ADA accommodation. Limitless @ Biogen provides support for managers and interns throughout the 12-week summer internship.

Position Description

The Compliance & Legal Billing Specialist will play a vital role in providing operational responsibility and management of the vendor and legal billing program for the Global Compliance and Legal department. The role will ensure operational effectiveness and customer service support in managing operating expense in the Compliance & Legal function.

The Intern Program candidate will focus on the day to day activities and work with invoices and data provided by vendors to Biogen looking for compliance and errors with guidelines and billing policy.

Working closely with the billing team, the Intern Program candidate will gain an understanding of the department’s E-billing management tool, Passport, as well as data and coding information.  This will involve exposure to IT systems, vendor-management processes, international VAT and tax matters as well as dealing with large data sets.

The ideal candidate would have some college experience and an interest in IT, data analytics and vendor-management activities.

Qualifications

To participate in the Biogen Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
  • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred 
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies by scheduled start date

Additional Qualifications

The Intern Program candidate will be expected to assist with the day-to-day billing responsibilities as well as ad-hoc projects, including but not limited to:

  • Monitor invoice submission/approval workflows
  • Address invoice payment inquires
  • Generate financial reports and analyze/review for accuracy and identify errors
  • Update user information as part of the onboarding/offboarding process
  • Create ad-hoc financial reports as needed
  • Review the daily error/rejection report and fix errors as appropriate
  • Maintain employee/org structure, make changes as needed
  • Extracts reports and dashboards to communicate key metrics
  • In your application, please include a work sample demonstrating your proficiency in Excel (such as pivot tables, etc.).

Education

At least one year completed in Business Management, Business Administration, Finance or a similar degree or certification program preferred.
