Job Description

Biogen’s Strategic Analytics group, a part of Analytical Development, is now building the lab of the future that will accelerate Biogen’s mission to discover, develop, and deliver worldwide innovative therapies for people living with serious neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. The Strategic Analytics group automates laboratory workflows through robotics and integrated informatics tools to deliver high-quality results at an unprecedented efficiency. Our data analytics and data scientists work to integrate our lab informatics systems to create value by using our scientific data to inform and improve our processes. The team serves Biogen’s two key sites in North America that are responsible for the delivery of Biogen’s therapeutic modalities.

The role will be a part of the Strategic Analytics group and work with the team to connect and integrate Biogen’s informatics and data systems. Duties will include, meeting with stakeholders and requirements gathering, connect and query diverse domain-specific databases, develop custom tools for automation to streamline end-user workflows, manage data through the application of laboratory standards, ontologies and data models, demonstrate value in data through visualizations.

Here is what you’ll do:

  • Partner with Biogen IT to connect diverse domain-specific databases including LIMS, ELE, and Empower
  • Create and implement data standards and practices
  • Produce visualizations that inform on our laboratory processes
  • Actively participate in an industry lead consortium to develop and implement laboratory data standards
  • Work with vendors to develop laboratory ontologies and data models
  • Use informatics expertise to connect laboratory activities and workflows
  • Design databases that collect and connect scientific information

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise and creativity in Python, R or similar coding languages
  • Experience in database design and utilization
  • Application of BI tools for visualization
  • Experience with cloud-based applications
  • Experience using or developing scientific data capture applications, for example, electronic lab notebook (ELN), biological registration or chemical registration systems
  • Understanding of software validation or qualification procedures
  • Skill in relational and/or NoSQL database systems
  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows

Education:

  • A Masters or Ph.D. in computer programming or data sciences
  • 5-10 yrs. experience in the application of data science in the pharmaceutical or representative industry
