Intern: Biostatistics

  • Full-time
  • Region: US
  • Department: Interns & Co-ops

Job Description

This is for a 12-week internship position from June - August 2020.

This summer internship involves collaborating with biostatisticians at Biogen to design and execute simulation studies to inform crucial decisions in both clinical trials and pre-clinical studies

In studies with two correlated outcomes, decisions to move the candidate drug to the next phase of development can be formalized under a Bayesian framework in which the outcomes are modeled jointly and a decision rule is pre-specified based on the posterior probabilities of a minimally meaningful treatment effect of each outcome. The goal of this summer internship is to develop a framework in R and Stan for performing simulations to support both pre-clinical and clinical studies using a Bayesian go/no-go decision rule for co-primary endpoints based on longitudinal data. The intern will design and execute a simulation study for a Phase II clinical trial and then develop a generalized simulation framework that can easily be applied to other clinical and pre-clinical studies. Being able to simulate different go/no-go study outcomes will help inform operating characteristics of the study and model and will help the statistician to introduce the concept of a Bayesian analysis and Bayesian decision rule to the study team.
