Job Description

This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2024. Resume review begins in January 2024.

This role supports RTP Pharma (drug product manufacturing) in North Carolina. The Maintenance Reliability function is under the site Engineering and Facilities department. The scope of Maintenance Reliability covers maintenance inventory management, planning and scheduling, reliability (this role), and engineering document management (drawings). This department exists to directly support the quality and on-time manufacture of the therapies produced in the three manufacturing facilities at site. More directly, maintenance reliability is focused on prioritizing and eliminating the cause of equipment failure and downtime to maximize manufacturing uptime.

Position Description

The reliability function is a new discipline for the site and company. As such this is open ended position in which the candidate will have the opportunity for assist in developing reliability standards under the guidance of the manager. Typically, reliability engineers:

  • Apply methodologies to optimize design requirements and performance of critical assets.
  • Originate and develop analysis methods for determining reliability of components, equipment and processes. Acquire and analyze the data.
  • Prepare and communicate information to define reliability problems, recommend improvements and avoid failures.

Expected day to day responsibilities include:

  • Checking in with manager on project(s) clarification, scope, and progress
  • Execution of assignments
  • Gain an understanding the major operations and utilities at site as well as expectations of working in a highly regulated industry.

Example projects may include:

  • Standardize an asset criticality ranking (ACR) process for site.
  • Develop a template and complete failure modes and effects analysis based upon the reliability centered maintenance framework.
  • Participate in and field verify maintenance job plans for accuracy.
  • Design and implement tooling for consistency of equipment set-up.
  • Designing and implementing automatic dashboards equipment and maintenance core KPIs

Qualifications

Include the knowledge, skills, and abilities you may be seeking.

  • Ability to organize and analyze large amounts of data in Excel (Pivot Tables). Experience in Power Bi, DAX, and power query functions preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined and ability / desire to work in an industrial plant setting, including clean manufacturing spaces and technical utility areas.
  • Solution oriented – describes solutions in terms of inputs, process flow, and expected outcomes.

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

Education

BS in an engineering degree. Industrial or mechanical preferred.
