This is a direct-client opening for a SQL DBA / Developer located in Alexandria, VA. This is a full time position.

We’re seeking a highly skilled individual with recent shell scripting and SQL programming experience who is able to clearly explain how s/he uses advanced shell scripting and/or UNIX commands and functions in writing code on a regular basis. Experience as an SQL developer in a data warehousing environment writing shell scripts to process a variety of flat files (from multiple sources) would  be very helpful.  The Sr. SQL Developer/DBA is a senior position on our team of programmers that requires frequent written and verbal communications with our members, subscribers, state officials and other stakeholders.

      This is not a back-end or operational software development position, nor is it a junior position.  So strong written and verbal communications skills are essential for this role.  Individuals who are unable to clearly explain programming concepts to non-technical stakeholders with data questions would not be suitable for this role.  And, though we’re looking for a Sr. SQL Developer, with expert level shell scripting and DBA experience—experience managing or supervising a technical team would be a plus.  We are an Informix shop in a UNIX environment, but advanced Oracle DBA (in a Linux or UNIX environment) (experience would be transferable to our operations.  

      The Sr. SQL Developer/DBA is a senior position that requires frequent written and verbal communications with our members, subscribers, state officials and other stakeholders. This is not a back-end or operational position, so, strong written and verbal communications and presentation skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related technical discipline and SQL programming and UNIX shell scripting experience are required. Equivalent experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Supervisory and/or management experience a plus.

• Advanced programming/software development experience using SQL, Python, AWK, or PERL in a UNIX environment is required. Recent experience must demonstrate expert knowledge of SQL programming and shell scripting in a UNIX environment.

• A minimum of 5 years of recent experience as an Oracle or Informix DBA is required.

Experience with troubleshooting, fine tuning, and optimization in Oracle, Informix, etc. is required. Data warehousing experience a plus.

• Must have recent experience writing advanced UNIX shell scripts at the command prompt using commands and/or functions that will automate and schedule tasks. Must have in-depth experience using functions and various commands in shell scripting.
