Job Description

We love and cherish our gardens here at the Bedruthan and Scarlet and looking for someone with the same passion to join the grounds team. You will cherish the outdoors, be passionate about horticulture and be inspired by the best gardens in the UK and globally. 

Being located on the North Coast, you will need to embrace and enjoy the location; understand what is needed to grow successfully in this coastal environment.  Learning, reading, watching and experimenting will be at the front of seasonal planting. You will embrace the freedom that your work gives you, being able to work on your own initiative and propose to the directors your plan for garden activations and improvements.

Priorities:                  

  • Landscaping design, respecting and building the local wildlife through plant selection
  • Maintain boundaries, hedges, borders and plant cultivation
  • Growing plants and succulents for planting and future sales
  • Maintenance and efficient working knowledge of machinery such as lawn mowers, blowers, strimmers
  • Forward planning for seasonal planting and grounds development
  • Develop an annual plan for grounds and garden upkeep

Qualifications

  • Horticultural qualification or equivalent experience
  • Nursery experience and/or landscaping qualifications (desirable) 
  • Exceptional knowledge of plants including coastal varieties and a willingness to continually learn and improve your horticultural knowledge
  • Demonstrated literacy, numeracy, and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of wildlife preservation
  • Ability to self-direct workload
  • Demonstrated literacy, numeracy, and attention to detail

Additional Information

  • £22,500 per annum
  • Maternity contract of 42.5 hours including days/weekends and the occasional evening
