Job Description

Position Summary

The Election Security Guard is responsible for providing a safe, secure, professional, and neutral environment at Clark County election facilities, voting locations, and related election operations. The Security Guard will monitor activity, control access, deter unauthorized activity, respond to security concerns, and assist election personnel and the public while maintaining strict professionalism and political neutrality.Security personnel must remain alert, courteous, and impartial while protecting election workers, voters, election equipment, ballots, property, and facilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible and professional security presence at assigned election facilities and voting locations.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, parking areas, and designated restricted areas.
  • Control access to secured areas and prevent unauthorized individuals from entering restricted locations.
  • Protect election personnel, voters, election equipment, ballots, supplies, and county property.
  • Monitor for suspicious, disruptive, threatening, or unlawful activity.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to security incidents and emergencies.
  • Report suspicious activity, disturbances, safety hazards, and policy violations to the appropriate supervisor or law enforcement agency.
  • Assist with crowd management and maintain orderly movement of individuals when necessary.
  • Enforce site-specific security procedures and access-control requirements.
  • Monitor doors, gates, and other access points to ensure they remain properly secured.
  • Conduct routine patrols of assigned areas as directed.
  • Assist election personnel during emergency evacuations, medical emergencies, fire alarms, or other incidents.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily activity and incident reports.
  • Immediately notify supervision of any significant incident involving threats, violence, unauthorized access, or election-related security concerns.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding election operations and security procedures.
  • Follow all Clark County Election Department procedures and instructions.
  • Remain politically neutral and do not engage voters or election personnel in political discussions while on duty.
  • Provide professional customer service and directions when appropriate without interfering with the voting process.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, election officials, emergency personnel, and security supervisors when required.
  • Perform other security-related duties as assigned.

Election-Specific ResponsibilitiesThe Security Guard may be assigned to early voting locations, Election Day Vote Centers, election offices, ballot-related facilities, or other locations designated by Clark County.Responsibilities may include:

  • Securing election facilities before, during, and after voting operations.
  • Protecting restricted areas and election equipment.
  • Monitoring access to areas designated for election personnel only.
  • Supporting the safe movement of election materials and personnel.
  • Reporting attempts to gain unauthorized access to restricted areas.
  • Preventing threats, harassment, intimidation, violence, or disruptive conduct from compromising election operations.
  • Maintaining a safe environment without interfering with a voter's lawful right to vote.
  • Following all instructions from authorized Election Department personnel and security supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Nevada Security Guard Work Card, as required for the assignment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous security, law enforcement, military, public safety, or customer-service experience preferred.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Must demonstrate political neutrality while performing election security duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to conduct routine patrols.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors as assigned.
  • Ability to lift or carry security-related equipment as required.
  • Ability to perform duties in crowded or high-activity environments.
