Job Description

BeVera Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Communications Specialist to support the CDC’s Global Immunization Division (GID).

The CDC’s key role in global immunization is to provide scientific and public health expertise, and to make evidence for action available for optimal policy and programmatic decision making at all levels, from community to global. In particular, CDC bridges the gap between knowledge and action by disseminating and communicating research, innovation and evaluation result, and by working with countries to use these results to catalyze improvements in immunization policy and practices. GID’s Office of the Deputy Director for Science and Program works with Division authors and technical staff to manage written manuscripts.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications Specialist will correspond with GID’s Associate Director for Communication to provide services in support of external communication priorities, included but not limited to web, digital and news media channels, partner communication channels, video scripts, talking points, milestone and event communication products and communication packages in support of GID science and communications.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide management and oversight, including meeting preparation, accurate and timely reports, comprehensive work plans, timelines, coordination and communications, and accurate cost estimates.
     
  • Write and edit Scientific Manuscripts from First Draft to Post-Submission Revisions: Correspond and work with lead authors to prepare manuscripts, including providing mentoring and assistance to GID staff on manuscript organization, writing style and clarity, and the publication process. This includes:
    • Organize manuscript content.
    • Developing and finalizing figures, tables, and graphs within the manuscripts.
    • Providing final review of manuscripts for logic, clarity, style, consistency.
    • Format manuscripts consistent with intended journal.
    • Manage manuscript references and citations.
    • Work with lead author to respond to queries from the journal and peer reviewers.

 

  • Develop communication materials, toolkits, web content, and social media to support One Health messages relevant to COVID-19 and pandemic preparedness focusing on companion animals, domestic animals and wildlife.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements for successful performance under the anticipated contract.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, or Communication.
  • Minimum 3-years of experience in health education and/or health communication writing, including writing for internal and external communication channels, as well as partner and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with global health and immunization related topics desirable.        
  • CDC experience required
  • Health communication experience creating and editing communication products such as: social media and web content, PowerPoint presentations, news article, fact sheets, pamphlets, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, and contribute in a team environment
