Job Description

A Clinical Laboratory Technician will work Regular Full-time Days and performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations which require limited exercise of independent judgment and which are performed under the supervision of a clinical laboratory technologist, laboratory supervisor, or director of a clinical laboratory.

  • The Clinical Laboratory Technician collects and processes laboratory specimens, prepares the specimen for transport to the lab, receives and distributes laboratory reports, documents and maintains selected quality control records and performs limited testing.
  • A Clinical Laboratory Technician performs specimen collection and limited laboratory testing on adult and pediatric patents.
  • Meets all requirements for quality control, calibration, proficiency and maintenance on all laboratory equipment and keeps a clean work environment.
  • A Clinical Laboratory Technician will process all specimens following established Laboratory policies.
  • Performs section specific tasks related to records, specimens, and supplies.
  • Displays excellent phone skills.
  • A Clinical Laboratory Technician maintains technical competence within areas of responsibility by completing annual competency requirements as defined by departmental policy and documented within the department.

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • High school graduation is required.

Experience:

  • Two years of pertinent laboratory experience preferred.

Licensure/Certificates:

  • Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technician is required.

Scope of Practice:

  • Individuals are required to practice within the responsibilities of their license, and perform specific tasks for which they have been deemed competent.

Skills:

  • Required to accurately handle and process laboratory specimens following established procedure.
  • Accuracy using the Laboratory computer system is required.
  • Must be able to prioritize work, write clearly, and use sound judgement.
  • Strong telephone and communication skills are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires extensive standing, walking, and bending during the entire shift.
  • Must be able to push/pull and lift supplies/reagents/equipment less than 50 lbs.
