Job Description

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) will work Per Diem, Days and will perform and verify (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepare products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner. 

  • The Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs quality control (QC) processes and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned. 
  • As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies and documentation required in performance of job responsibilities. 
  • The Clinical Laboratory Technologist follows all institution and department policies and procedures.  
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment. 
  • The CLT direct, review, and /or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel, students, and/or nursing staff as assigned. 
  • Any Clinical Laboratory Technologist meeting NYSDOH qualifications of supervisor (part 58 of 10 NYCR, section 1.4) may be required to perform supervisory functions in the absence of the regular supervisor. 
  • Performs other duties within their scope of practice as assigned. 

Please refer to the LFH Lab's NYSDOH Clinical Laboratory permit for an overview of test categories performed under the LFH Laboratory permit. Medical Technologists may assume charge responsibility if the MT has six (6) years experience as a NYS-licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist, in the absence of an on-duty Technical Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Candidates must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations. 

Licensure/Certificates/Memberships: 

  • Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, required.  
  • OR licensure- eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. 
  • Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit. 

Experience: 

  • Experience in a standard laboratory methodology, required.  
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience, preferred.
