Job Description

The Operating Room (OR) Technician II will work Per Diem, Various Shifts & Weekends and will demonstrate the assimilation of the principles of asepsis, and patient and staff safety in performance of duties. 

  • The Operating Room Technician will be responsible for managing the surgical field efficiently to ensure minimal waste of supplies and equipment.  
  • The Operating Room Technician will maintain supplies and equipment in assigned specialties. 
  • The Operating Room Technician will exhibit knowledge of skills, importance of teamwork and consideration of others.  
  • The Operating Room Technician will perform similar or related duties as requested or directed 

Qualifications

Must meet one of the following requirements:  

  • Successful completion of a nationally accredited education program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization 
  • Has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps 
  • Provided evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 2011 and 2015 
  • Is in the service of the federal government, to the extent the person is performing duties related to a Surgical technologist. 

Experience: 

  • Previous hospital experience as a surgical technologist preferred  

Licensure/Certification:  

  • Must obtain Surgical Technologist certification within 1 year from date of graduation (Previously employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015 will waive this requirement) 
  • Must obtain BLS certification within 6 months from date of hire  

Skills: 

  • Excellent motor, hand eye, coordination and manual dexterity required. 
  • Ability to handle and operate equipment, read, retain and comprehend written and oral, medical and technical information. 
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.  

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to focus for extended periods of time. 
  • Extended periods of standing in one position required. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs in support of patient positioning, instrument and equipment handling. 
  • Visual acuity correctable to 20/25 and hearing correctable to normal voice tones through surgical masks. 
  • Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, instruments and radiation.
