Job Description

    Responsibilities
    The Pathologists Assistant will work Regular Full-Time, Days 8AM – 4:30PM.

    Under the general supervision of a pathologist, provides various services in both surgical and autopsy pathology.  The primary responsibilities include gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens and the performance of post mortem examinations. 

  • The Pathologists Assistant provides preparation, gross description and dissection of surgical specimens in accordance to established protocols in a timely manner
  • The Pathologists Assistant selects and prepares representative tissue sections for histologic and microscopic examination including frozen sections, following established guidelines
  • The Pathologists Assistant assists the pathologists in performing the post mortem examination in accordance to established protocols in a timely manner
  • The Pathologists Assistant provides technical and administrative support for Bassett sponsored conferences and projects as requested by physicians
  • The Pathologists Assistant follows all institution and department policies and procedures
  • Understands the role and responsibilities of individual members as part of the health care team including their ability to promote the delivery of quality healthcare
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment
  • Review work of students and residents as assigned
  • Performs other duties within their scope of practice

Qualifications

Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes.  The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. Education:

  • High school diploma o equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree or higher in science related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 2 years Pathologist Assistant training required.

Licensure/Certificates:

  • Licensure by NYS SED as a Pathologist Assistant, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license required. Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.
