Job Description
We are currently seeking a qualified Project Cost Engineer / Specialist to join our team, preferably based in in either our Saskatoon, SK or Calgary, AB office. The Project Cost Specialist is a key role that ensures the project is built in a controlled manner at the lowest possible cost. Providing value added analysis, controls, and reporting that produce effective tools for managing project costs for our segment as part of the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan.
There may be a requirement for adhoc site travel to Leroy, Saskatoon

Duties & Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of cost recording and reporting systems. Monitor project performance and ensure compliance with established procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain cost budgets and forecasts using change management systems.
- Conduct ad hoc cost analysis to support project decision-making.
- Analyze cost data and cash flow; track project status and contractor progress.
- Support and revise project code of accounts; maintain unit rate reports and performance metrics.
- Assist in preparing cost data for proposals, contract negotiations, and change orders.
- Recast estimates into cost control budgets as per project requirements.
- Coordinate and maintain the cost change management system (trending).
- Maintain job hour control systems and support financial reporting per Bantrel and client standards.
- Identify data sources, collect discipline-specific data, and apply appropriate analysis techniques.
- Develop and apply pricing structures, cost assumptions, and allowances.
- Prepare and review indirect cost estimates (e.g., temporary facilities, tools, non-manual labor, insurance, etc.).
- Perform cost reconciliations, analyze data, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Engineering or Business degree AND/OR relevant qualification in Planning/Scheduling, Project Controls, or Project Management
- 10+ years of experience in Project Controls with increasing responsibility, including familiarity with engineering, procurement, construction, and startup processes
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs, statistical analysis, or skilled in understanding technical processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and mathematical and financial reports
- Demonstrated experience managing $100M+ facility contracts
- Familiar with the concept of Project Codes of Accounts (COA)
- Knowledge of cost/financial reporting systems and analysis (e.g. forecasting, change management, metrics, Quantity Unit Rate Reporting)
- Proficiency in project controls software (e.g., EcoSys, Primavera P6, SAP, Oracle)
- Knowledge in capital cost estimating and services estimating
- Familiar with cash flow development and assessment
- Knowledge of cost control interfaces with project planning and scheduling
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to work well in a team environment
