Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

The HSE Advisor is responsible for monitoring the safe implementation of the Project HSE Plan by DFL and Subcontractors performance, assisting in HSE Orientations and training, inspecting and auditing the DFL and Subcontractor activities in the work site and assisting in incident/accident investigations.

Job Description

  • Safety and risk prioritization issues (i.e., decision to stop or change work due to safety requirements, the ability to intervene to ensure risk is assessed and completed safely)
  • Provides technical and administrative direction to superintendents, construction engineers, coordinators, administrators, and others, as assigned.
  • Establishes, coordinates, and implements construction schedules. manning charts. material and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure that work face planning material requirements are identified and available to execute the
  • Ensures subordinate personnel receive progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities.
  • Minor changes to design (mine plan, safety bays, turnaround drifts, construction design, etc.)
  • Resolution of conflicting (material movement) logistics priorities
  • Prioritizing deliveries to mining scope workfaces
  • Assess and approve the key contractor items such as galloway
  • Construction equipment designation to contractors – underground mining equipment (UGME) (i.e., who gets what, week-to-week planning)

* Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on a 14 day on 7 days off rotation.

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares schedules, construction methods and procedures
  • Provides technical and administrative direction to subordinates, field staff and others as assigned
  • Identifies and communicate risks impacting project objectives
  • Monitors and ensures assigned construction contractor’s activities and performance complies with specifications and is within schedule and budget
  • Serves as ongoing liaison with Field Engineering, Cost and Planning, Quality, HSE and others as required

  • Conducts quality assurance and inspection on site
  • Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, job human-power forecasts and expenditures forecast
  • Provides back-up support to the Manager Mining Construction

Qualifications

  • Mine site construction expertise preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in general field supervision / construction management roles, 5 of which are in a supervisory capacity
  • Multidiscipline craft/construction familiarity across SMPEI
  • Considerable knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Mining regulations
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and schedules
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and achieve deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of underground mining methods and procedures.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and offer sound technical expertise with regards to mine design and ground control issues
  • Ability to coach technical professionals in a direction that honors their goals and the mine's needs
  • Effective ability to convey messages in an organized, clear, and succinct way
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
  • Familiarity with industry digital construction tools and applications is seen as an asset
