Job Description

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.

The Jansen project has set up a dedicated team to execute the mining scope. As the mining scope is on the project critical path, this team supports the sequential nature of mining tasks while ensuring seamless interfaces with the rest of the Jansen project. This team will promote shared accountability between BHP and HBJV, trusting that the best person is selected for each role as they work towards safely delivering the mining scope on time, on budget, and with high quality. This team will strive for effective work planning, rapid and empowered decision-making, and continuous improvement through a joint construction and operational mindset. Role Purpose:

The Project Messaging Specialist is a key member of IPT responsible for the development of Messaging activities in support of JS1 delivery, and develops and maintains strategic and trusted partnerships with stakeholders, inc site workers,JS1 team members,  business leaders and contractor leadership. This role includes 75-per-cent on-site and 25-per-cent Saskatoon office attendance. This role reports to IPT’s Deputy Site Manager.

* Please note this position is a 5/2 shift, Monday to Friday. Transportation and accommodations will be provided for those coming from Saskatoon.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

Messaging Management:

  • Work collaboratively within IPT to develop quality content and deliver effective messaging strategies to build JS1’s brand
  • Provide guidance and messaging for IPT and JS1 employees and stakeholders to create brand ambassadors
  • Develop and manage day-to-day IPT employee and stakeholder messaging with a strong editorial focus and ensure quality control
  • Maintains accurate Distribution Lists (DL) for the various types of messaging
  • Develop and clearly articulate JS1 narrative and strategy to ensure consistency and alignment of all internal and external messaging
  • Collaborate with and develop high-quality content for the successful delivery of  materials for internal IPT business units, including but not limited to:
    • Health, Safety and Environment
    • Contracts and Procurement
    • Indigenous Relations
    • Inclusion and Diversity
    • Workforce engagement
    • Attend key internal meetings to ensure alignment across all IPT business units, JS1 employees and other stakeholders
  • Provide expert understanding of different channels and work across IPT to maximize content distribution, including but not limited to:
    • Newsletters and updates
    • Website
    • Social media
    • Infographics
    • Marketing materials
  • Support the execution of JS1’s milestones through robust and integrated messaging plans

Stakeholder Management:

  • Provide strategic messaging advice to achieve JS1’s needs, develop and nurture trusted relationships across all levels of JS1 including IPT leadership, business units, employees and stakeholders
  • Collaborate and liaise with BHP messaging on JS1 to support strong and effective connections, as required
  • Understand and provide audience insight through research and consultation with IPT business units and stakeholders to create, develop and implement strategies and/or concepts that are effective and measurable
  • Provide regular updates to IPT on Community Complaints and Grievances received by BHP at the Construction Weekly Progress meeting

External and Digital Messaging:

  • Develop a digital strategy for external messaging for website, social media and internally through newsletters, employee messaging
  • Create audio, video and photographic content to be shared externally
  • Primary point of contact for all IPT and JS1 messaging requests
  • Develop content in the form of speeches, key messages and presentations for delivery by IPT leadership and JS1 brand ambassadors to be shared with external stakeholders
  • Manage website and social media in alignment with JS1 messaging strategies
  • Define lines of communication between JS1 and external stakeholders
  • Represent JS1 at public-facing events (i.e., trade shows, luncheons)
  • Coordinate and arrange public events, as required
  • Liaise and brainstorm with IPT business units on content, strategy and to support JS1 initiatives
  • Adhere to BHP style standards and guidelines
  • Effectively develop strategies and concepts to support stakeholders based on consultation, research and understanding of audiences

Supervision received:

  • Direct, day-to-day supervision and oversight from Deputy Site Manager

Supervision Exercised:

  • No direct reports, works collaboratively with BHP Communications , as required

Accountabilities:

  • Manages all messaging for JS1 for IPT in coordination with BHP, as required
  • Effectively monitors and manages messaging deliverables and analytics, as required
  • Ensure messaging are compliant with BHP standards and guidelines
  • Operates day-to-day ensuring activities are prioritized in line with broader objectives
  • Time is effectively managed, and deadlines are met

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in messaging or equivalent fields such as journalism, public relations, media relations
  • Knowledge of large-scale industry (i.e., mining) and / or experience working with JS1
  • Strong written and verbal messaging skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences (i.e., internal and external stakeholders)
  • Expert understanding of digital tools and platforms, internal and external
  • Excellent business partnering skills and experience
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate across disciplines, networks and stakeholder groups
  • Ability to learn quickly and comprehend new concepts
  • Senior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and quality control
