As our Chief Marketing Officer, you will oversee all aspects of our brand strategy, marketing, and creative. You will have the unique opportunity to unite these global functions under one umbrella for the first time at Balsam Brands. Building on our historical strengths in channel marketing, you will be responsible for substantially increasing our focus on inspiring brand storytelling and cohesive marketing campaigns. You will build and foster relationships* with cross-functional partners such as our Merchant and Digital Experience teams to delight our customers and grow our brand awareness and revenue.

This role presents a unique career opportunity to lead the beloved, established, and profitable Balsam Hill brand through a continued evolution from leading with product-focused marketing to leading with brand marketing. 

We expect you to be both steadfast in your convictions and open and eager to learn.

Most of all, we are looking for you to flex both your left and right brain, balancing business objectives with creativity to deliver short- and long-term impact. You should be equally facile serving as our brand steward and leading with a creative mindset that inspires our team and guides our brand vision as you are managing the analytical demands of performance marketing and driving revenue.

You will report to our CEO, Mac Harman, and will serve as a member of Balsam’s Executive Team. You will lead a combined marketing and creative team comprised of over 100 individuals.

We are open to this role being remote anywhere in the U.S.; we will also actively recruit in our local office regions of Redwood City, CA and Boise, ID. Our local teams are expected to work in a hybrid model, which includes two days in-office.

What you’ll do:

  • Own our brand strategy, messaging, and storytelling; provide the foundation and guardrails for how we communicate with our customers
  • Develop, lead, and evolve all aspects of marketing (performance, CRM & loyalty, PR & events, and growth)
  • Set the bar high*: deliver results and drive business growth by crafting a compelling strategic vision, building internal capabilities, and driving execution
  • Align creative and marketing: communicate a unified brand identity in all channels, platforms, and experiences 
  • Continually improve and optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of marketing spend to ensure marketing activities deliver successful ROI and brand-building metrics
  • Partner with other members of our leadership team to track, assess, and respond to our revenue results
  • Understand and communicate the voice of our customer and the market through connection to trends, consumer behavior, and culture. Integrate customer insights into marketing strategy
  • Build our global brand through increased brand awareness and growth in the size, engagement, and lifetime value of our customer base
  • Lead, develop, and motivate a talented internal team of marketers and creatives; define how these global teams will work together from their now unified functional home
  • Celebrate individuality*: evolve our brands to be more diverse and inclusive

You’ll be successful if you:

What you bring to the table:

  • 15 + years as a marketing leader; 5+ years with consumer-facing brands
  • Demonstrated success growing and evolving a global brand
  • Deep understanding and expertise in digital marketing; strong digital knowledge and understanding of the evolving media landscape
  • Fluency with metrics-based assessment of DTC performance (CAC, LTV, AOV, customer retention, etc.)
  • Creative vision; demonstrated experienced leading creative efforts
  • Strong leadership skills with a development focus; passion for mentoring, developing team members, and co-crafting fulfilling career paths
  • Outstanding track record in marketing strategy; experience building brands and driving engagement and loyalty in the DTC industry
  • Executive presence and thought leadership beyond the Marketing discipline
  • Masterful communication skills
  • Visionary ability to lead Balsam into marketing opportunities through partnerships, media/content, and more
  • Mindset of continuous improvement; drive to learn and evolve
  • Efficient, flexible, and adaptable approach
  • Experience evolving brands to be more diverse and inclusive is preferred
  • Career experience with digitally native brands and brick & mortar retail marketing is preferred
