Manager, Data Engineering (Remote Option)

Job Description

As a Manager of Data Engineering, you will lead a small, high-performing team of data engineers and be responsible for driving improvements in technology and processes that contribute to growth and profitability of the business. We are looking for a combination of knowledge of technology and people management experience. You will be responsible for designing and developing robust and scalable data intake solutions. You will also be responsible for maintaining consistent delivery of accurate data to cross-functional stake holders.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Enterprise Technology. This role can work remote from anywhere in the U.S. or locally in our Redwood City, CA or Boise, ID office location. Our local teams are expected to work in a hybrid model, which includes two days in-office.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing data engineers to successfully deliver to business needs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners and build technology roadmap
  • Prepare development plans for team member growth and career navigation
  • Work with product managers and business owners to ensure that project goals, scope and resources are aligned
  • Provide recommendations to the Director of Enterprise Technology regarding process and technology improvements. Explore new technologies and assess their fit and value for the organization
  • Assist Program Management team with technical project management of development team, including project planning, scheduling, status reporting, issue tracking and resolution, etc.
  • Champion data warehouse. Define strategies to capture all data sources. Assess and manage the impact of business process changes and technology changes on data feeds, data models etc.
  • Implement standards and best practices. Define procedures for production support

 What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum ten (10) years industry experience in data engineering
  • Minimum five (5) years industry experience managing a team of data engineers
  • Proven track record of successful execution of the full product/service development lifecycle from inception to production deployment and support
  • Demonstrated success in building and managing large scale, highly available data warehouse
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and to maintain a high degree of technical involvement with your team and application/services
  • Highly organized, exceptional attention-to-detail, enjoys multi-tasking
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adaptive towards change
  • Ability to work effectively with different stakeholders (digital engineering, product, operations, marketing, reporting) located in varied geographical locations
  • Expert level database knowledge and experience in cloud data technologies like Azure, AWS, ADF etc.
  • Strong knowledge of industry best/next practices related to data engineering and analytics
