Job Description
Baird has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Senior Marine Project Engineer with business development experience in water resources and the coastal engineering environment.
This position combines technical expertise with business acumen, often leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, and identifying and pursuing new business opportunities in Canada. The candidate’s skillsets will complement and expand our existing team strengths in coastal and marine structures, port engineering, navigation engineering & risk analysis, hydrology and hydraulics, metocean analysis, and/or construction management.
Roles & Responisibilities:
- Work collaboratively across functionally diverse teams to develop solutions to technically complex water resource problems and engineering challenges.
- Serve as a Senior Project Manager responsible for the planning, execution and successful delivery of marine projects to clients.
- Develop detailed schedules, budgets and resource allocation plans while identifying, assessing and mitigating potential risks that could impact the project.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with team members, clients, stakeholders and contractors. Baird prides itself on maintaining strong relationships with our clients and partners.
- Support mentorship and professional development of junior staff members and provide oversight and review of project work.
- While the position is focused on developing business and managing projects in Canada there will be a requirement to support international projects.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and partners. Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Understand market trends, new techniques and technologies as well as competitor activities.
- Develop and implement business strategies, ensure alignment on business objectives, and represent Baird at industry events.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil, Ocean, or Coastal Engineering or a closely related engineering category from an accredited University or College (M.S. preferred).
- Professional Credentials: either a Professional Engineering License or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Minimum of 5 years of coastal or marine engineering experience, in a consulting or contractor role.
- Demonstrated experience in project design or construction experience involving coastal and marine structures, ecosystem restoration or navigation & dredging.
- Flexible work style, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, meet challenging deadlines and client needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in civil, ocean, or coastal engineering or a closely related engineering category.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
- 10+ years of engineering experience.
- Experience Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities with annual sales targets of $500k-$1M
- Strong interest in the analysis, engineering and design of marine and coastal related projects.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (English).
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 1 to 2 weeks every other month.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Flexible work style, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, meet challenging deadlines and client needs.
- Ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams (internal and external) under tight deadlines and changing scope.
- Working knowledge of codes and standards related to coastal engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. or M.Eng. in civil, ocean, or coastal engineering.
- Engineering design and construction experience related to marine and coastal projects.
- Broad interest in multiple areas of marine and coastal engineering.
