Job Description

Place in the organisation:

  • Subject to: Operations Manager / Director
  • Subordinates: advisory role to the Project Quality Manager or Project Quality Control team
  • Reports to: International B.U. QHSE Manager /Corporate Quality/Tender Manager

The International B.U. QHSSE Department supports the implementation of the BESIX Group QHSE policy and related programs. Projects covers civil, marine, environmental, building infrastructure works in an international context.

Function:

The Quality Advisor provides guidance and advice regarding the effective management of Quality Assurance and Quality Control; delivering quality management and improvement support to all projects and Functions within the designated area of responsibility – from tender, planning & preparation, mobilization to execution phases of the projects.

He/she represents the Quality aspect of BESIX BU International’s QHSSE Department and is the first person of contact for the site(s) in this respect.

He/she works in close consultation and collaboration with the other members of the QHSSE team and Corporate Q team.

He/she provides QA/QC training and guidance for the site(s) team.    

He/she provides Quality support to operational and site management within the dedicated regions by promoting, coordinating, implementing, facilitating and follow-up the ISO9001 part of the certified Integrated QHSE Management system and this in line with the strategy of the BESIX QHSSE Department.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Focal point for all QA matters providing a support function to project management, ensuring that they have adequate resources and QA input.
  • The Quality Advisor ensures the implementation/compliance and alignment of all project quality programs, policies, processes, and procedures within construction areas.
  • Responsible for the performance of internal/external audits preparation and execution.
  • Pivotal in the development and implementation of continuous improvements of the Project Quality Management System and Construction areas ways of working.
  • Develops and mentors’ resources to meet project/department needs.
  • Utilise the knowledge management tools available to assist Quality to capitalise from Lessons Learned and to perform in accordance with best practice, striving to mitigate risk, promoting safety and integrity consistently.
  • Execute trainings, audits and inspections, identify Non-Conformities and propose Opportunities for Improvement. Report to the Project Management team on the performance and the need to improve the Quality Management System on projects. Explain and defend your recommendations towards your project team, (joint venture) partners and the client.
  • Be able to lead in a changing environment.
  • The Quality Advisor may be required to fulfil a temporary mission as Senior QA Advisor role in some of the projects.
  • Prepare project specific Quality documents (project execution plan, inspection and test plan) and provide hands-on support to the project team during their implementation in execution phase.
  • Assist projects in the use of the quality related aspects of BESIX’ digital QHSE solution OASIS.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Management and Engineering to manage supplier quality and performance.
  • Assess potential suppliers and subcontractors and assist in their selection. This may include audits.
  • With the project team continuously strive to keep the balance between quality, cost, and timeframe, while preserving the compliance with our BESIX Management System, client requirements and (local) legislation.
  • Train the project teams in the management of all non-conformances. Assist with the management of the major non-conformities, facilitate root-cause analysis and related corrective actions process and client negotiations. Ensure effective implementation of solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Evaluate the various execution techniques from a Quality point of view in order to help selecting the most appropriate equipment in collaboration with the Project Engineers and specialised in-house departments.
  • Assist, advise and train project personnel in all matters relating to the application and implementation of the company management system on projects, ensuring appropriate levels of quality control both surveillance and inspection with applicable areas of project execution and delivery.

Qualifications

KEY QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably Master degree) and QMS Lead Auditor Certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction industry and strong knowledge of technical environment.
  • Have professional working knowledge of relevant international industry standards and specifications.
  • A broad range of construction products/solutions and operations knowledge (preferable).
  • Ability to articulate views, learning and training experiences in a comprehensive manner; good organizational skills and smart working methods.
  • Quality Management System and process auditing experience (ISO 9001; nice to have ISO 14001, ISO 45001 experiences)
  • Willing to travel both domestically/ internationally up to 30 % of the time. Experience of issue resolution management - A proven trouble-shooter, with the ability to deal effectively on any given problem, identifying possible solutions;
  • Experience in ITP and Construction Laboratory testing systems and process.
  • Have good IT skills - Word, Excel, Email (Outlook), PowerPoint
  • Fluent in French and English (nice to have – Portuguese or any additional languages)
  • “Good to have” Health, & Safety and /or Environmental background, experience and managerial capabilities to integrate BESIX multi-disciplinary team.
