Company Description

BESIX Environment is the independent entity within BESIX Group focusing on the development, engineering, construction, startup & commissioning and O&M of projects within the field of water and sustainable energy & hydrogen infrastructure.

BESIX Environment is within these projects in charge of the process and MEICA scope. Projects vary from waste water treatment & water reuse plants for municipal or industrial clients including technologies for sludge treatment and biogas treatment, to industrial applications for process water (process, cooling water, demi water, ultrapure water), potable water, pumping stations and turbines,... as Biomass or Waste-to Energy plants using biochemical or thermal processes and infrastructure related to hydrogen production, transport and storage.

Primary role for BESIX Environment is mainly within the EPC scope, but in specific projects the scope is extended including a full Operations & Maintenances service contract.

Job Description

  • He/She will work close together with the process team under the Process Director.
  • He/She will work in all stages of a project: tendering, execution, commissioning, start-up, and eventually O&M (during guarantee period or during an O&M contract).
  • He/She will participate in feasibility study and conceptual up to basic design of waste water and water treatment project as well as other environmental & energy projects (sludge and waste, biogas, Hydrogen, CCU, heat networks, etc.).
  • He/She will deal with existing and new technologies.

Tendering

  • Process concept development and selection (review tender book process or present justified free alternative): screening, comparing and select ‘best for project’ process technologies / plant configuration;
  • Prepare Process Flow Diagram (PFD);
  • Prepare / provide calculation of Flow & Mass Balance; Heat & Mass Balance;
  • Hydraulic profile and calculations;
  • Prepare Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID);
  • Provide Process risk assessment.

Process calculations & process engineering

  • Process calculations resulting in selection of process parameters and dimensions for all process related equipment and structures (volumes, L, W, H,...);
  • Prepare process description and functioning indicating required operational parameters;
  • Suggestion for main process related equipment & instrumentation: aeration system, mixing system, control instrumentation,...;
  • Write up of control philosophy and functional description;
  • Propose optimal plant lay-out and conduct hydraulic profile.

Process guarantees & risk / Commissioning & start-up

  • Prepare the process commissioning plan;
  • Check and determination of the  process guarantees;
  • Provide Process risk analysis.

Operation & Maintenance

  • Calculation of quantity of chemicals (e.g. FeCl3, Cl2, Polymer,...), process water, energy consumption, other consumables,... for O&M period;
  • Participate in the HAZOP/ RAMS analysis.

Qualifications

  • Preferable minimum 10 years of experience in the field of waste water treatment plant, industrial water treatment plant and potable water treatment plant as process engineer (tender and / or execution, commissioning).
  • Experience in biogas plants, sludge treatment and thermal treatment processes is a plus.
  • Have a Master degree in Biochemistry, chemistry, environmental engineering or chemical engineering.
  • Candidate shall be able to work autonomous and work in team.
  • He/She shall be flexible and able to undertake several tasks or projects at a time.
  • He/She shall be flexible to work either in offices or on site (ex: for subcontractor follow-up and commissioning, project start-up, etc).
  • Candidate shall be fluent in Dutch and be of minimum B2 level in English and French.
