Job Description

We are looking for an HSE Manager to be based on one of our International projects (Europe, Africa, North & South America).

The HSE Manager represents BESIX’s QHSE Department on project sites abroad and is the first person of contact for all HSE matters on the construction site. He/She is responsible for promoting, coordinating, implementing, facilitating, advising and supporting the sites on compliance with HSE regulations and BESIX’s HSE Policies, procedures and processes as part of the Integrated Management System.

The HSE Manager can be assisted on site level by one or more site specific HSE Officer(s).

He/she shall work in close collaboration with the Environmental Coordinator, the project’s operational leaders and the International QHSE team based at BESIX HQ in Brussels.

  • You take ownership of HSE operational monitoring, advising and performance on BESIX project sites, together with the Operational team.
  • You perform and participate in internal HSE inspections & audits in line with the internal MS audit & inspection planning.
  • You provide training on miscellaneous HSE subjects (e.g. BBS, life saving rules, etc).
  • You participate in specific HSE communication and improvement actions in line with the yearly HSE action plan and the project’s HSE objectives. 
  • You perform site inspections from mobilisation to demobilisation.
  • You train, guide, coach  and follow-up site HSE staff.
  • You report Key Performance Indicators to the International HSE Manager and Project Manager/Director.

Qualifications

  • You have at least 8 years of experience as a Safety professional, in a contracting company, preferably with Main Contractor (buildings, civil works, etc…);
  • Preferably, you have a Master or Bachelor degree in engineering or HSE;
  • You have HSE Certifications like NEBOSH, IOSH, OHSAS, or any other accredited International HSE Programs;
  • Experience with Marine works is a plus;
  • You demonstrate complex problem-solving, decision-making, time management and strong analytical reasoning;
  • You are able to present your ideas in a clear and efficient way both orally and written;
  • You have excellent organization and communication skills;
  • You have the ability to maintain effective work relationships and you are a good team-player;
  • You have the experience and the ability to work in a multi-cultural team
  • You are fluent in English and French (written and verbal). Any other language is an asset;
  • Essential: you are flexible to travel and work for short & long term missions abroad (position will be based abroad on a construction site)
