Job Description

BESIX Watpac are looking for an experienced safety manager to join our NSW business heading up our safety function across numerous large scale commercial and infrastructure projects. Duties of the role will include but not be limited to the following; 

  • Comply with company health and safety policies, practises and procedures and conform to WHS legislative requirements to provide a framework that promotes a positive health and safety culture and a safe and heathy work environment at all times.
  • Maintain membership and activity on the National Safety Steering committee.
  • Support and champion the establishment and maintenance of the BESIX Watpac systematic approach to health and safety as required in health and safety legislation and relevant accreditation and certification schemes.
  • Support and advise project and senior management of any health and safety matters relevant to company operations and provide reports, as necessary.
  • To oversee and facilitate appropriate health and safety training and educational programs for the business in compliance with company identified training needs and expectations.
  • Ensure that relevant safety information is properly compiled and recorded using the company reporting databases and is easily accessible.
  • Prepare and distribute WHS reports as required.
  • To assist in the co-ordination and implementation of BESIX Watpac’s WHS Management System within the business and on projects.
  • Establish a regime of auditing to ensure the SMS is being adequately implemented and operational risks are being managed in accordance with health and safety legislation and BESIX Watpac’s requirements.
  • To conduct and/or facilitate the reporting and investigation into health and safety incidents, and to maintain an oversight with regards to sharing lessons learnt and any required follow-up and close-out of corrective actions

Qualifications

The incumbent in this role will require the following qualifications and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in OH&S or a related discipline, or suitable experience.
  • Previous experience as a Safety Manager for a building/construction organisation or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to communicate, influence and build effective relationships at all levels of the business with a particularly strong internal customer focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills through development of productive relationships with colleagues and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proven high level of professionalism, maturity, candour and confidentiality in daily work ethic.
