Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Avery Dennison is seeking a Strategic Account Manager (SAM) to join the Materials Group North America Sales organization. This role is aligned to the Graphics business and will successfully exceed the expectations of our strategic (large) customers to deliver profitable growth with your assigned account(s).

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all account activities related to the company’s top tiered, client(s)/customer(s).
  • Call on named major accounts to cultivate relationships, identify opportunities and increase sales. Often coordinates the organization's entire sales efforts toward these customers.
  • Responsible for achieving optimum global, national or strategic sales consistent with budgeted profit and selling expenses.
  • Develop sales plans and budgets for achieving sales goals in conjunction with subordinate sales positions.
  • Implement value-enhancing service initiatives which will strengthen customer dependency.
  • Develop customer specific joint business alliance plans 
  • Develop strong relationships with Sales Team and accounts.
  • Work with Marketing to plan and implement for all or some of the organization’s product line national sales programs.
  • Provide product recommendations, samples, technical support, pricing and service information on demand.
  • Provide product quotes and actively utilize value-selling tools and skills.
  • Uncover and assess customer needs and develop and execute Value Proposition (Aligning Value).
  • Demonstrate products and/or services and provide assistance in the best application of product and/or services.
  • Creatively develop new applications for product lines.
  • Establish pricing programs and strategies.  Secure optimum product positioning within target accounts.
  • Provide exceptional customer experience for business partners and prospects to develop long-term business opportunities.
  • Navigate complex problems and structures to determine the best solutions for customer needs.
  • Collaborate with other business units to evaluate volume, identify trends, ensure quality, and monitor budgets.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.

Experience: 

  • 6+ years experience, emphasizing strategic account management.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in a sales position that involved negotiating complex transactions with upper-level management positions or similar experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute detailed account strategies.  Able to identify 2-3 critical focus areas in driving win-win value creation. 

Skills Competencies:

  • Excellent negotiation, financial, mathematical, and business acumen skills needed.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with all levels of management on complex business issues.
  • Skilled in preparing professional written proposals. 
  • Thorough understanding of product and technical information.
  • Excellent customer service skills.  Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Google, and function specific software.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team.

Travel: 

  • Minimum 30-40% travel to customers and other site locations, internal/external meetings, etc.

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $105,675 - $140,900 / year.


The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
