Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Divisional Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join our North America Materials Group (MG-NA). In this remote-based role, you will act as a Senior-Level Specialist, serving as a recognized expert and best-practice resource for automation within and outside your discipline. You will lead and shape the vision for automation across our expansive manufacturing network, including major sites in Ohio, Indiana, and Georgia, and finishing centers nationwide.

As a key member of the MG-NA Process Technology team reporting to the Technical Director, you will provide imaginative and practicable technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Your mission is to identify and implement automation opportunities across receiving, storage, material handling, coating, finishing, and shipping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Vision: Develop and execute a five-year strategic automation roadmap to outline long-term investment opportunities.

  • Technical Leadership: Define the technical scope for MG-NA automation projects, including AGVs, robotics, and cobots.

  • Project Management: Lead and coordinate complex, long-term engineering projects from inception to completion within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.

  • Collaboration & Coaching: Act as a technical mentor, providing guidance and coaching to site-level technical teams on automation solutions.

  • Global Benchmarking: Partner with international regions to benchmark and transfer best-in-class Avery Dennison automation solutions worldwide.

  • Expert Consultation: Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on major contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel and internal leadership.

  • Core Competencies: Demonstrate Self-Leadership by displaying agility in changing circumstances, championing collaboration across functional teams, and delivering high-quality results despite obstacles.

Qualifications

To be successful in this Senior Specialist role, you must possess in-depth knowledge and experience in your specialty.

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related scientific field is required.

  • Experience: Minimum of 6+ years of engineering, research, or scientific experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or 4+ years with a Master’s degree).  

  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in industrial electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; must be able to complete difficult technical assignments without immediate supervision.

  • Systems & Design: Proficiency in AutoCAD to develop and update complex drawings (P&IDs, PFDs). Experience with MS Project or Smartsheet for project tracking.

  • Methodology: Working knowledge of Six Sigma and ELS (Avery Dennison's Enterprise Lean Sigma) principles preferred.

  • Operations Knowledge: Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes and capital equipment purchasing.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills; ability to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute requirements.

  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, both domestic and international, based on business needs.

The salary range for this position is $100,725 - $150,416 / year. The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
