Job Description

The Material Handler is expected to be proficient at safe forklift operation at all times including physical movement of material in, out, and within the building while performing all necessary system transactions in the Oracle Warehouse Management system.  Activities performed will include shipping and receiving material in and out of the building, supplying production lines with material, and putting away material from production lines.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending upon site-specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to supporting the following: 

WIP Operator

  • Supply material to the slitters while performing all necessary transactions

  • Support providing any material needed for the roll editor from the WIP racks

  • Support quality with retrieving any material need for samples for the quality department

  • Support putting up material from coaters in WIP racks while performing all necessary systems transactions

  • Follow all health, safety, and housekeeping procedures, policies and practices and consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Shipping Clerk 

  • Needs to be certified as a shipping loader

  • Work with the Transportation group and outside carriers to ensure on-time delivery and meet customer expectations.

  • Accurately generate and file all shipping documentation, including Bill of Lading, packing lists, customer sales orders, transfer orders, vendor shipment returns and parcel package documents.

  • Process, close and file BOLs

  • Pull orders forward that are ready

  • Check the status of the orders and follow up with Finishing to ensure that material ships on time 

  • Follow all health, safety, and housekeeping procedures, policies and practices and consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems.  

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Material Handler Floater

  • Able to perform all SML Coordinator II job duties and responsibilities, when needed

  • Primary Responsibilities:

    • Taking bulk rolls from the coaters to the respective location (SAI trailers or WIP locations) while performing all necessary transactions

    • Returning but rolls to the warehouse 

    • Supporting WIP

    • Support recycling tasks for both IWR and BCP trailers and coordinate trailer pickups

    • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum education of high school diploma or 3+ years of manufacturing experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Have general knowledge and be able to work with computers and programs (G Suite Applications, Oracle, OTM, etc.).

  • Willingness to act as an additional material handling resource by taking a hands-on approach to day-to-day inbound/outbound/production activities.

  • Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures. 

  • Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment, encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal. 

  • Must have a strong service and quality focus, be able to address issues effectively when problems arise, and take the initiative to understand the root cause then communicate/educate team in a timely manner. 

  • Must have demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability in order to support material handling operations and a strong customer focus.

  • Must have a strong detail orientation and be able to follow written and oral instructions.  

  • Must be able to lift / push / pull up to 50 lbs.
     

Preferred Requirements 

  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing/logistics in a similar production environment.

  • Track record of participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Time Management skills, ability to work with teams , or autonomously.

  • Track record of following Lean manufacturing processes.

  • Forklift experience highly preferred
