Job Description
Responsible for the daily operation of the R&D Applications Lab, including resourcing and scheduling of testing, communicating with test submitters, and developing and maintaining a State-of-the-Art test lab as part of the Materials Group North America - Mentor Innovation Center.
Distribute testing for maximum lab efficiency ensuring alignment with organizational priorities
Maintain lab compliance according to ISO/UL/CSA or other agency requirements for testing and documentation
Ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated
Support local and external test submitters when needed by providing testing recommendations
Drive Continuous Improvement and Process Changes
Create and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Maintain a safe and well-organized workplace, ensuring that direct reports follow all best practices and safety initiatives, including 5S
Train others on specific tests and laboratory best practices
Assists in the specification, selection and purchase of test instrumentation and related equipment
Ensure the accuracy, clarity and completeness of all R&D test data & records
PFS super user providing feedback, support, and training
Manage direct reports by scheduling work, addressing resourcing constraints/levels, interviewing new prospects, defining initial & cross-training, leading talent development, performance coaching & mentoring, GPS set-up and review, payroll, and paid-time-off oversight
Conducts testing (<25% of time)
Serve as the primary liaison between the Laboratory and your assigned Product Line Team (PLT)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering or equivalent experience preferred
5+ years experience with testing, measurement equipment and SOP development/training
Strong scientific and engineering knowledge
Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and LIMS systems (i.e., PFS)
Ability to work directly with customers to develop application specific testing
New Test Method development experience
Good written and oral communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Comfort with data analysis
Growth mindset
This position will be based in Mentor, Ohio with full-time in-person expectations.
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $96,000 / year.
The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting.
