About the Role

The Operations Manager I is responsible for leading manufacturing operations while expanding accountability across Supply Chain and Global Product Development (GPD) functions. This role owns operational execution, people leadership, and financial performance, ensuring alignment with business strategy and Avery Dennison’s operational excellence standards.

The position has direct responsibility for P&L performance, including Sales, Contribution Margin (CM), Manufacturing Operating Expense (MOE), and EBIT, driving sustainable profitability and growth.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Performance

  • Lead daily manufacturing operations ensuring compliance with safety, quality, cost, delivery, and productivity targets.

  • Translate business strategy into operational plans and execute them effectively.

  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Drive production planning, material flow, and capacity optimization.

  • Lead and integrate Supply Chain activities including planning, procurement, inventory management, logistics, and customer fulfillment.

  • Optimize inventory levels, service performance, and working capital.

  • Lead and support GPD initiatives, ensuring successful industrialization of new products and processes.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline leaders to build a high-performance culture.
    Foster employee engagement, accountability, and continuous development.

  • Manage performance, succession planning, and talent development within operations.

Continuous Improvement & Lean

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., ELS, continuous flow, cellular manufacturing).

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve cost performance.
    Champion a problem-solving mindset across teams.

Financial & Business Acumen

  • Own full P&L responsibility, including Sales, Contribution Margin (CM), Manufacturing Operating Expense (MOE), and EBIT.

  • Manage operational budgets and control manufacturing costs.

  • Understand and act on key financial drivers such as labor efficiency, scrap, yield, and inventory.

  • Support forecasting, capital expenditure planning, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, and Commercial teams.

  • Ensure smooth communication and alignment across functions to meet customer and business needs.

Systems & Reporting

  • Use operational systems and tools (ERP, Microsoft Office, manufacturing systems) to track performance and report results.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of KPIs and operational metrics

Requisitos

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Engineering, Industrial, Operations, or related field).

  • 6+ years of experience in Operations or Manufacturing environments.

  • 3+ years of people leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.

  • Proven experience leading teams and managing performance.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and material flow.
    Solid knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Financial acumen within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and execution skills.

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office and manufacturing-related systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the labeling, packaging, or related manufacturing industry.

  • Experience working in multinational or matrix organizations.

  • Strong change management capabilities.
