Job Description
The Controls Technician will be responsible for the repair and upkeep of equipment such as electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, electro-mechanical control systems, and programmable logic control (PLC) based control systems. Activities include both planned and predictive maintenance and breakdown repair. This position will report into the Maintenance Team Leader and will support our Reflective site in Painesville, Ohio. In this role, you will work Building 7, A Shift, 7AM to 3PM, Mon-Fri.
Position activities may include, but are not limited to:
Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety procedures, policies, and practices.
Locate and diagnose failures, replacing defective components, and perform troubleshooting using standard equipment, detailed drawings, diagrams, sketches, specifications, prints, manuals, and verbal and/or written instructions.
Repair and install of complex electrical equipment, including motors, switches, switchboards, electrical mechanisms, automated machines, controls, panels, relays, circuit breakers, communication systems and alarms.
Assisting engineers in diagnosing problems and suggesting corrective action for equipment including PLC, motor controls, VFD, instrumentation, and graphical terminal interfaces.
Perform and maintain control system programming file back ups at designated frequency to ensure control system programming can be reestablished if there is a catastrophic failure.
Program control system logic changes and HMI updates as required for plant MOC requests and capital projects.
Ensure adherence to preventive maintenance systems for all production equipment including verification of predictive and preventative maintenance activities for all production equipment and systematic preventative maintenance, including electrical or mechanical adjustments, inspections and minor repairs.
Act as department champion for TPM activities.
Participate as process controls representative in commissioning activities.
Act as a resource for mechanics in identification and correction of potential equipment problems and troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
Properly perform all necessary maintenance tasks to production lines (i.e. rebuilds, welding, valve, pipe and solenoid selection, etc.).
Actively assist with planning/scheduling and storeroom staff for tracking work orders, parts, and purchase requisitions.
Identify and assist in the implementation of projects as required.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience.
3 - 5 years previous experience in industrial manufacturing
Electrical certification/ training or 3-5 years experience.
PLC certification/training or 3- 5 years experience with proficiency in using PLCs to troubleshoot and diagnose root cause.
Good interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical skills and aptitude and logical problem solving skills necessary.
Hydraulics, controls, electrical, mechanical, welding, electrical, PLC’s, and pneumatics experience
Working knowledge of data network, switches, routers and servers
Experience using email, and business applications such as MS Office/ G Suite.
Good verbal and written communication.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment with a highly participating work system.
Ability to work independently in a safe and timely manner necessary.
Must be motivated towards productivity improvements, safety and quality awareness.
Preferred:
Associate Degree or better in Manufacturing or Electrical disciplines.
Experience with SCADA, board-level troubleshooting and software systems
AutoCad proficiency
Certifications in specialty areas required as applicable. Or acquire within specified timing any licenses necessary to perform the job.
