Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The R&D Lab Technician role is focused on executing and delivering performance testing to support a variety of R&D initiatives. In this role, you will be required to learn and excel at using various instruments to determine performance characteristics of Pressure Sensitive Adhesives Labels, Graphic Materials and Specialty Materials. This role will handle multiple requests in a high volume laboratory, requiring the individual to manage their workload to meet required due dates. This is a first shift opportunity working 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
In your role as R&D Laboratory Technician, delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:
Ability to collaborate with colleagues and project leaders
Effectively meet expectations of testing accuracy and turn around time
Multi task and manage a variety of testing, timelines and due dates successfully meeting team and individual performance indicators
Ability to effectively navigate a variety of instrument software, analytical tools, laboratory information management system, laboratory equipment, instruments and printers.
Comfortable in a high output laboratory environment
Ability to follow all Environmental, Health & Safety policies, 5S principles and adhere to all Company policies/trainings
Conduct lab testing in support of R&D project teams, quality teams, production, and segment/emerging technology teams
Perform a variety of laboratory tests on raw materials, finished products, chemicals and equipment
Duties usually consist of making measurements, performing quantitative and qualitative physical/application tests
May participate in the development, maintenance and refinement of internal quality control and reliability programs
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree, Technician Certification, and/or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Engineering or similar field considered a plus
Experience:
1 - 3 years of lab/industry experience in technical environment
Ability to create and follow Standard Operating Procedures
Ability to support ISO management processes, including ISO17025 and ISO9001
Technical Skills:
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to safety and quality.
Strong understanding of scientific principles and testing procedures.
Proficiency with various testing equipment.
Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google applications.
Experience with quality management systems (QTL) or electronic laboratory management systems (LMS) is a plus
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective communication (verbal and written) skills.
WHERE YOU’LL WORK: Mentor, Ohio (~30 minutes east of Cleveland, Ohio)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● Lifting: Regular lifting of materials, dies or rollers weighing 10 lbs or less; Occasional lifting of materials weighing 10 to 50 lbs.
● Standing: Regular or prolonged standing. Typically, standing 3 to 6 hrs per day.
● Sitting: Some sitting, Typically, sitting 2 to 3 hrs per full day
● Repetitive Motion: Regular repetitive motion, including bending, reaching, computer work.
● Other considerations:
○ Requires ability to work in temperatures varying from -4 F to 110F in high and low humidity conditions for
limited time intervals.
○ Requires ability to test large volumes of workload in short turnaround time periods where work is repetitive at
times
○ Requires ability to work with solvents and chemicals
○ Requires multitasking, handling multiple test requests at the same time.
○ Requires use of PPE: safety glasses, chemical gloves, cut gloves, safety shoes and more as required.
○ Requires awareness of pinch points and safety protocols when working.
○ Requires good mental awareness, alertness to surroundings and sight due to potential hazards
○ Requires good manual dexterity
