Scope of the Position:
Avery Dennison Materials Group North America is composed of 4 main businesses; Label and Packaging Materials, Graphics Solutions, Reflective Solutions, and the Performance Tapes businesses.
The Freight Procurement Manager should enhance total value obtained from the Freight and Logistics supply base by leading innovation, standardization and carrier rationalization across the region. This role will be responsible for managing the strategic direction of regional freight and logistics procurement and ensuring harmonization of policies and procedures. The Manager will work closely with regional stakeholders to align on business objectives to deliver value and cost savings. The Freight Procurement Manager is responsible for negotiating commercial terms and implementing procurement agreements with carriers. This role is based on sustained delivery of business results, including supply assurance, cost, quality, service and innovation.
This position will be based out of Avery Dennison’s corporate headquarters in Mentor, Ohio and reports directly to Sr. Procurement Manager of Paper and Freight.
Critical Objectives:
Strategic Leadership: Lead and implement Project Nova initiatives within assigned business.
Drive the functional transformation in sync with our Avery Dennison Plan to Win, our Material Groups Global Strategy and the 5 Levers Strategic Plan.
Supplier Relationship Management: Manage supplier relationships and drive necessary business reviews driving holistic performance conversations.
Deliver the latest thinking and best practices in the areas of strategic sourcing, cost modeling, supplier relationship development, and total cost of ownership.
Strategy & Execution: Partner with the Global & Regional Freight Procurement team as well as other cross functional stakeholders (e.g. Logistics, Operations, Legal) to develop and implement long-term freight sourcing strategies aimed at achieving competitive advantage in transportation costs, enhancing service quality, and mitigating supply chain logistics risk (e.g. capacity constraints, market volatility).
Sourcing and RFPs: Lead and execute full-cycle freight sourcing events (RFPs/RFQs) across various modes (e.g. Truckload, LTL, Intermodal), including vendor identification, designing and maintaining standardized bid templates, managing the competitive bidding process, conducting complex data analysis, and negotiating final contracts with core carriers.
Provide Market Intelligence & Enable Actions: Share market, competitive, geo-political intelligence on a regular basis in all aspects of the supply chain to enable the enterprise the necessary navigation.
Drive Sustainability & Innovation: Work with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing and the greater Procurement team to determine future sourcing needs to extract maximum value from the supply base and develop sourcing plans to address the future direction of the business.
Drive Fundamentals: Ensure freight lane/mode analysis, carrier roadmaps and rate models are robust and complete for the category. Liaison with the other regional and the global procurement teams managing global freight capacity and supply risk and help identify and qualify new carriers or logistics providers that are aligned with the subcategory procurement strategy and the business strategy.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations or Engineering) required, Master's degree a plus.
7 – 10 years’ work experience in the freight industry and/or freight procurement.
Experience in logistics, supply chain management, strategic sourcing or other areas of procurement a plus.
Self-starter, able to drive projects to conclusion and work effectively with a variety of people at various levels within the company.
Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to manage/lead multiple projects and programs simultaneously.
Demonstrated accomplishments in handling diverse and complex sourcing transactions, negotiations, and contractual responsibilities.
Demonstrated success facilitating and influencing positive change with internal business partners
Must have a strong customer service orientation and high business acumen.
Technology driven and ability to leverage Procurement and eSourcing tools.
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as Google sheets, docs and slides.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (< 10%)
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $123,000 - $160,000/ year.
The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
