Job Description
Avery Dennison is seeking a dynamic individual to join the Advanced Material Solutions (AMS) team, a global R&D team within the Materials Group business unit. The Research Generalist will advance the organization with leading new technology development, proof of concept studies for energy storage and electric vehicle adhesive development. Experience in synthesis, formulation and testing of polymeric materials is preferred. Collaboration within AMS and across global technical teams is expected. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of creativity, problem solving and an ambition to learn new skillsets and technologies.
Representative Activities:
- Support project team(s) with development of new materials and test methods
- Conduct and/or coordinate experiments and associated testing
- Attention to detail specifically when collecting and analyzing data
- Communication of results by writing technical reports and presentations
- Support in development of technical milestones and project decision making
- Expand core technology through building new skillsets by studying literature, attending external trainings or conferences and development of intellectual property.
- Collaborate with colleagues and project leaders to ensure smooth workflow, alignment on project goals, and timely delivery of accurate testing results.
- Transfer knowledge to fellow technical peers and business leaders via presentations, technical reports and day-to-day interaction.
- Maintain an accurate lab notebook and records.
- Follow Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) protocols rigorously, actively participating in safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with company policies and trainings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Engineering, or related field required
- This position may be an entry level position but experience in a technical lab setting is considered a plus
- Strong data management and reporting skills with proficiency in Google or Microsoft Office.
- Eager to learn and collaborate with senior scientists, with a focus on career development.
- Statistical analysis skills and willingness to take on increased responsibilities are a plus.

- Demonstrated excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Well-developed time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to foster creativity/innovation while ensuring project progress and lab efficiency
- Experience with laboratory safety, chemical hazards, and full understanding of Safety Data Sheets
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities
