Job Description

We are looking for an Enterprise Lean Sigma Manager to join the Engineered Films Plants within Avery Dennison. In this role, you will participate on our leadership team and report to the Plant Manager. They will plan, lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives and ensure effective execution of key business and lean strategies. This role will function as a liaison between both sites and the Divisional ELS team. The Continuous Improvement Manager will be a member of the Plant Leadership Team. Ability to work with all levels of the organization, influence without authority, and knowledge of manufacturing processes are key to the role.

In your role as Continuous Improvement Manager delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:

Employee development & management:

  • Train and provide development opportunities for staff. Ensure annual goals are complete and communicated. Ensure Global Performance Management System is up to date and regular feedback is provided to staff members.

  • Monitor and evaluate team members, and adjust training where needed.

  • Attract, retain and develop high potential talent.

  • Model and promote the Corporation’s Code of Business Ethics and Values.

  • Perform general management duties, exercising usual authority concerning staff, performance appraisals, promotions and terminations. Responsible for training and development of subordinate staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies.

  • Act as a team role model and change-agent.

  • Positively lead and influence team members to partner together to achieve individual and business goals.

  • Coordinate team efforts, create and manage a regional strategy and team operating plan.

Continuous improvement:

  • Partner with site leaders to train and deploy Enterprise Lean Sigma practices.

  • Own ELS assessment and improvement initiatives.

  • Support the select core implementation team members and introduce them to: value stream management process, 5S, visual controls, VSM, Kanban, Daily MDI, etc.

  • Assists in selection of teams and individuals to work Enterprise Lean Sigma implementation opportunities.

  • Develop ELS training plans, site trainers and track progress.

  • Monitor the team’s progress in applying the Enterprise Lean Sigma techniques

  • Effectively remove roadblocks as they arise.

  • Review current and future state value stream maps and kaizen proposals.

  • Facilitate and support Kaizen events.

  • Implement the value stream management process (in all Sites this includes non-manufacturing processes) and track results.

  • Apply Enterprise Lean Sigma assessment throughout the site and participate on ELS site assessments.

  • Share best practices with other site CI managers and develop coordinated plans.

  • Challenge organizational leaders to take ELS to the next plateau.

  • Identify and communicate various ELS readings, training and benchmarking opportunities.

  • Identify project opportunities within a site or across business units.

  • Identify and remove organizational barriers to continuous improvement processes.

  • Lead site’s layout and flow process improvement efforts.

  • Lead efforts on applying best practices.

  • Use the Value Stream Map to establish the baseline process and measure progress.

  • Track Site Continuous Improvement metrics.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field; Black belt certification required
  • 3-5 years of business/lean/operations experience, with proven success in leading teams
  • Strong understanding of lean sigma methodologies and commitment to Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS)
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with ability to influence at all levels
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with strong problem-solving abilities
  • High proficiency with information systems and manufacturing applications
  • Change leadership skills: ability to adapt, initiate, and reinforce change among teams
