Job Description

The Product Line Manager, Industrial Printer Solutions has the primary responsibility for managing the global product portfolio that addresses the distributed printing and encoding needs of the logistics, retail, and food markets. This role has the overall responsibility for the execution of the product development and marketing strategies for industrial tabletop and desktop printing and RFID encoding solutions. The PLM works with the sales organization in meeting and exceeding sales growth and profit contribution goals.  Collaborates in developing the hardware development strategy, gathering market intelligence and customer insights, developing product roadmaps, and executing product releases. This role is responsible for managing the full product life cycle from concept development and definition through obsolescence for the global marketplace. Manages internal product development as well as the business relationships with key OEM partners.

Product Launches and Support

  • Generates and develops ideas for new products, and evaluates their potential and practicality. Develops product specifications, feature definitions, and benefits. Leads ideation and concept development phases of the product development process.  
  • Works closely with Engineering leaders in the development process.  Supports and/or leads new product development and technical service efforts.
  • Manages and leads an implementation team in order to organize the internal and external activities necessary for a smooth product launch and introduction of new products.
  • Determines product roll-out plans and maintains global forecasts to maximize working capital and sales growth. 
  • Ensures that new products are introduced professionally, with appropriate positioning, pricing, training, and accompanying services.
  • Initiates and oversees the completion of all product release marketing deliverables, including pricing, product solution literature, brochures, customer presentations, newsletters, etc.). Ensures technical accuracy.  

Strategy and Implementation

  • Prepares strategic product development plans which clearly establish product positioning versus competitive products. Identifies, defines, selects, and prioritizes market opportunities. Develops strategies for new market penetration. 
  • Generates and maintains analysis of the market with a focus on market trends, market size, competitive solutions and positioning, market share, and customer needs for the product portfolio.
  • Develops market knowledge to understand trends and opportunities in product technology.  
  • Develops deep insights into customer processes in order to provide consultative solutions to optimize accuracy and efficiency.

Relationships

  • Develops strong working relationships with global Avery Dennison Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Leadership teams; as well as external development partners and Avery Dennison Customers.
  • Works proactively with the global technical deployment team to develop and deploy customer solutions.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Product Management team to drive synergies across product lines to create effective solution suites from hardware, software, and media products.
  • Models and promotes the corporation’s code of business ethics.

Growing the Business

  • Grows the business by developing and introducing new and upgraded products to meet market needs. Ensures that products under development meet market needs and fulfill company objectives. 
  • Leads the development of new products and manages implementation processes in coordination with Operations, Procurement, and Engineering.
  • Manages product concepts from ideation through product launch.  Develops concepts, business cases, and product prospectuses.
  • Collaborates in the development of multi-generation solutions roadmaps. 
  • Use effective negotiation skills and achieves project outcomes when balancing project scope, and schedule and resource constraints.
  • Provides technical solutions to customer problems; becomes involved in major sales opportunities as a highly knowledgeable resource on assigned product solutions. Collaborates to obtain assistance as needed from other areas (such as Engineering); guides and trains technical support and sales personnel.

Measurement and Analysis

  • Assesses current revenue performance.  Partners within the organization to ensure the development of programs, tools, and initiatives to improve performance.
  • Monitors product profitability and takes proactive actions.  Initiates and implements cost savings activities.
  • Measures and communicates results of (new) product sales.  Initiates and executes product pruning and end-of-life projects.
  • Maintain global product delivery and support guidelines.  Manage products with respect to forecast, packaging, range, logistic requirements, etc.

 

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, supply chain management, or other relevant areas preferred. 
  2. 5+ years of business experience in product management, OEM partnership management, or business development. Strong experience in automated printing, encoding, and item identification is desired. 
  3. Experience in launching, scaling, and supporting complex customer solutions on a global level.
  4. Demonstrated ability for facilitating cross-organizational teams of professionals and managers.
  5. Demonstrated strong drive and ability to solve complex multifunctional customer problems involving software, hardware, sensors, and triggers. Proven sense of ownership and ability to solve complex problems through data analysis and structured analytical processes.
  6. Demonstrated performance in concept generation and decision-making roles addressing product line issues, supporting phases of the product cycle and/or post-implementation product management ideas from concept through obsolescence.  
  7. High degree of planning, organization, communication, and presentation skills - both written and oral. Ability to translate complex topics to communicate effectively to non-technical internal and external customers - proven ability to bridge the discussion between technical and non-technical team members.
  8. Position may require up to 30% travel - some to global locations.
