Job Description
Avery Dennison is seeking a Business Development Manager to join the Marketing - Specialty Wine & Spirits team. A key aspect of this role will be working closely with label converter customers to develop and close new business, and will engage and travel to key value chain partners (end users, wineries, distilleries and designers) for the purpose of providing ecosystem insights, identifying and developing new business opportunities and value propositions utilizing a full suite of Avery Dennison solutions and products. This individual plays a lead role in the development of strategic and tactical business plans, uncovering potential investment opportunities and joint ventures that further our goal to defend and grow Avery Dennison’s Wine & Spirits business. This individual has very strong technical and business skills with extensive experience in the pressure sensitive label and Wine & Spirits industry. You will work closely with Marketing, Product Development, Sales, and Innovations teams to identify and evaluate opportunities that convert into new or incremental sales around strategic, sustainable and innovative products.
Key responsibilities:
In your role as Business Development Manager, delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:
- Stay abreast of industry and sustainability trends through research, investigation and benchmarking
- Surface new ideas, products applications and solutions to development teams; communicate and link key value propositions, differentiators around these ideas.
- Work with Sustainability Innovation Platform teams to identify sustainable solutions
- Develop long-term business opportunities; Identify and work with prospective customers & segment partners, build new relationships with designers and quickly drive to unmet customer needs, working to identify products and processes needed to meet those needs.
- Craft customized go-to-market strategies for innovative solutions
- Benchmark other companies and opportunities around strategic adjacencies for our products and capabilities; Provide ongoing gap and competitive analysis to identify new growth opportunities and implement plans to capitalize on these opportunities.
- Identify and work with commercial teams to close new opportunities for growth. Implement and hit numbers, while continuously growing a pipeline for joint future business opportunities.
- Develop and conduct product and value proposition training for internal and external customers. Support market/product development initiatives including training, customer trials, promotional activities, trade shows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required with a major in Marketing, Business, or a related field strongly preferred. Master’s degree preferred
- Solid understanding of the Avery Dennison pressure sensitive label portfolio a plus
- Ability to develop go-to market strategy, as well as implement activities
- Preferably 10+ years of experience in business development, sales, marketing. Experience in Wine & Spirits segments a plus.
- Ability to influence others, exhibit enthusiasm and a passion for the work; Strong influencing and storytelling skills and ability to champion projects both cross functionally and vertically within the organization.
- Creativity, out of the norm thinking around what is possible
- Self-starter and collaborative teammate. Self-motivated with a high level of energy, ability to work with limited supervision and demonstrate business maturity in areas of decision-making and conflict resolution.
- Strong track record in redefining growth businesses, resulting in “step change” commercial success and target execution.
- Excellent interpersonal, written communications, and organizational skills; Detail oriented, project management and communication skills a must
- Strong financial skills and business acumen.
- Experience with product development & product commercialization processes
- Can be located anywhere in the United States so long as you're willing to travel up to 30-50% of the time #LI-Remote
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $126,100 - $157,625 / year.
The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
