Job Description

Given the highly decentralized nature of the Materials business organization, the main challenges for the new VP Global Procurement will be to:

  • Drive sustainable cost reductions globally, by fully leveraging the global purchasing power of the organization, working closely with the regional General Managers and developing a better future-looking strategy with a closer pulse of the market;
  • Ensure strategic guidance and input into the global sourcing strategy in order to deliver savings, optimize sourcing costs and minimalize commercial risk;
  • Evolve the balance between global and regional responsibilities and decision-making as needed in order to enable the business strategy;
  • Create opportunities for people development within global procurement organization, improve the overall business savvy, clarify roles and responsibilities;
  • Improve the overall level of best practices in the organization and speed of information sharing, remove obstacles to collaboration and reposition the function as a value-added partner at global and regional levels;
  • Drive improvements in systems, on the backbone of the current ERP implementation program (today, the business does not operate a common ERP platform).

Qualifications

The future VP Global Procurement Materials Group should be an executive comfortable with challenging the status quo and providing strategic input on the directions and the future of the procurement within Avery Dennison. Additionally, the new position holder should work cross-functionally with marketing, sales and product management teams in order to ensure alignment across the organization. 

VP Global Procurement Materials Group is expected to be a technology savvy professional, welcoming innovation through cross collaboration internally as well as through partnering with suppliers.

  • Supplier Management. Ability to oversee an effective supplier management program. Develops deep supplier partnerships. Excellent negotiation experience and capability to effectively represent the company’s interest in interactions with suppliers and third parties at the highest level. 
  • Procurement Expertise & Experience. Experience managing a global, >$1Bn, direct and indirect Procurement spend. Expertise in best-in-class processes, across the procurement value chain. Track record of achieving significant cost take out per year in a global environment.
  • Global Experience. Experience in leading a global procurement organization with strong regional structures of similar size. Thrives in an international business and leads scattered global teams. Expatriate assignments preferred.

Procurement Leadership. Demonstrated leadership of similar-sized procurement organizations. Experience in leading major projects that impact the business on a global basis and require coordination of cross-functional team members.
