Job Description

The Team Leader is responsible to assist the Team Manager with facilitating a production team, including: scheduling, distribution of tasks, resources and communication of production targets. The team leader will provide leadership and direction that will promote safe work practices and improve quality and productivity.  This role will be on D team, 2-2-3, Dock.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Act as a team role model and change-agent.

  • Positively lead and influence team members to partner together to achieve individual and business goals.

  • Serves as an indirect leader that primarily works on the production floor in an assigned production position and assists team managers, as needed.

  • Assist manager with production flow and the daily staffing of equipment to meet monthly budgets.

  • Communicate and monitor key operational metrics.

  • Collaborate with other functional areas to resolve problems and develop improved manufacturing processes.

  • Provides feedback to the team manager regarding production team members' performance.

  • Coordinate the production activities of the production team members on the shift.

  • Promote and facilitate the personal development of team members by identifying and creating opportunities for training.

  • Ensure that all employees are following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training instructions.

  • Lead the efforts to identify the root cause and put preventative actions in place for quality- and safety-related issues.

  • Work closely with other production team members and managers to provide consistent expectations and drive continuous improvement.

  • Support the 5S, housekeeping, continuous improvement and recycling projects / programs.

  • Reduce manufacturing waste and process complexity.

  • Assign personnel responsibilities and ensure teamwork among everyone on the shift to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime on production equipment.

  • Ensure the accurate recording of production data across your shift on all equipment assets.

  • Ensure collaboration between shifts (handoff, communication, etc.).

  • Assist and support other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participate and share in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility.  Contribute and participate in team decision making.  Provide support in project work and other special requests.

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience

  • 3-5 years in a manufacturing, warehousing or distribution environment preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Have general knowledge and able to work with computers and programs (Google, email, documents, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, manufacturing systems).

  • Willingness to act as an additional manufacturing resource by taking a hands-on approach to day-to-day production activities.

  • Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to actively contribute in a team-based environment, encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.

  • Must have a strong service and quality focus, be able to address issues effectively when problems arise, and take initiative to understand root cause then communicate / educate the team in a timely manner.

  • Must have demonstrated a record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus.

  • Demonstrated track record of implementing lean manufacturing processes.

  • Must have a strong detail orientation and be able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, especially strong Oracle transactional skills.

  • Must be able to obtain Forklift Operator’s license.

  • Must be able to lift / push / pull up to 50 lbs.
