Job Description

Acts as a project manager for targeted business-unit or corporate-wide initiatives.  Project Manager will manage large infrastructure programs and projects simultaneously.  The goal of the Project Manager is directed at achieving specific results for the business unit and/or company.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of assigned projects, with focus on software enhancements, technical customer requirements and end to end solution deployment. 
  • Work with management teams to translate strategic objectives into executable projects, and to develop plans for achieving stated objectives.  
  • Strategize with the project team to forecast problems, assess potential risks and solutions, and plan alternatives.  Coordinate the recovery of projects that are struggling or failing.  Identify and share new approaches to reduce project implementation timeline and cost of project development.
  • Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports. 
  • Conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis. 
  • Leading the rapid & flawless execution of high-profile cross-functional projects with focus on software applications and program deployment in the food and logistics verticals.  
  • May partner with Technology with focus on new product development (NPD).
  • Help infuse process discipline, systems thinking, and critical tools deep into the organization thereby enhancing company’s capacity for effective & efficient project management.
  • Create detailed project plans that explicitly align the efforts of multiple functional specialties (e.g. Sales, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain, Finance, IT, other).
  • Leverage Design for Lean Sigma methods & tools to: accelerate project timelines, encourage cross-functional collaboration, and build quality into projects from the outset.
  • Identify & resolve issues proactively and balancing schedule, scope, and cost constraints creatively.
  • Manage interpersonal dynamics within project teams (e.g., building consensus among sub-project owners, negotiating any changes to the project plan, and holding team members accountable for delivery on commitments made).
  • Ensure teams meet or exceed anticipated project benefits on-time, within budget, and with the desired level of quality.
  • Integrating “best practice” tools, techniques, and frameworks from recognized industry leaders, and Avery Dennison Corporate into a unified project management methodology that is custom-tailored to business needs.
  • Build institutional knowledge by systematically capturing, documenting, and disseminating lessons learned from prior projects and initiatives.
  • Transfer capability by: serving as role models on the projects they lead, delivering focused training as necessary, and mentoring other project leaders.
  • Work effectively with internal and external clients, third party vendors, and senior management in accomplishing project objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or related.  
  • 7+ years of relevant experience with proven success as a Project Manager. 
  • Experience with the food industry, the food supply chain, 3rd party logistics and software application development and testing 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Subject matter expertise and/or consultation and project management skills; experience in organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation.
  • Knowledge of the assigned business area’s products and processes; experience in the strategic use of technology in managing and growing a business.
  • Excellent facilitation, customer service, relationship building and communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills with knowledge of Excel or Project Management tracking software (e.g. Microsoft Project).
  • Experience with applying ELS / DfLS (six sigma and lean manufacturing) methods & tools preferred.
  • Comfort and confidence in interacting with / presenting to all levels in an organization
  • Strong business acumen.  Ability to influence effectively without authority.
