Summary:

We are seeking a leader with a passion for sustainability and a strong commitment to help drive our vision of building a regenerative business model through environmental and social actions, enabling people and the planet to thrive. From adapting to climate change, eliminating waste, accepting and restoring nature, and optimizing the health and wellbeing of people, the role will lead collaboratively with multiple functions across the business and play a strategic role in aligning our strategy to deliver the Avery Dennison and Label & Graphics Materials (LGM) business unit sustainability goals. In this role, you will work closely with the Global VP R&D, to advance, elevate, align, and execute Avery Dennison’s sustainability vision and strategy globally. Partnering with global functional and regional business leaders across Avery Dennison, you will develop and execute sustainability plans across all LGM activity,

Primary Responsibilities:

Sustainability Business Partnership

  • Partner with senior business leaders globally to execute the Avery Dennison sustainability strategy, and specifically the contribution from the Labels and Graphic Materials business unit.
  • Participate in functional leadership team meetings: Innovation, R&D, Marketing, Procurement
  • Lead a global team that collaborates with the company’s internal LGM groups (Innovation and R&D, Marketing, Procurement, Operations, Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety) to develop a coordinated sustainability plan to achieve our 2025 and 2030 Goals.
  • Lead strategic planning process related to achieving the 2030 Sustainability Goals and addressing the trends and challenges of the industry.
  • Build an annual plan, demonstrating progress towards achieving our sustainability targets.
  • Take leadership of key sustainability initiatives, including management of our actions to deliver a low carbon circular economy.
  • Create and deliver sustainability training throughout the organization.
  • Research and supervise sustainability macro and micro trends, and key topics on the agenda of our customers
  • Work in collaboration with the leadership team and peers to gain valuable insights and expertise from within the organization and externally with key ecosystem partners and third parties
  • Work with the Marketing Communications team to develop a communication plan that raises awareness of our sustainability initiatives and goals. Ensuring that we embody our sustainability commitments in all communications, events and activities. Provide the Communications team with regular updates on progress and key news/PR opportunities and ensure that we have regular communication regarding our progress both internally and externally.
  • Lead collaboration and partnership with the sustainability teams within other business units.

Measurement and Reporting

  • Develop, lead, monitor and report on LGM sustainability progress against the strategy/plan/OGSM .
  • Develop and launch sustainability scorecard for LGM, that is in line with the current corporate protocols
  • Provide input for ESG Reporting, including CDP

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred or equivalent.
  • 12+ years business experience, preferably with a sustainability and/or commercial emphasis.
  • Expertise in the external landscape and associated dynamics related to environmental and social implications within the packaging industry.
  • Expertise in sustainability concepts, including social and environmental standards (e.g., U.N. Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, SASB, GRI, TCFD, CDP)
  • Expertise in sustainability management, reporting and transparency, inclusion and diversity, and/or supply chain.
  • Experience in strategic leadership and negotiation.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work with cross-functional business teams within our global network and with external parties.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders of multiple levels, within and outside the company.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills, including communicating and marketing sustainability strategy, initiatives and progress.
  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to lead, contribute, and influence others in a team-based organization
  • Ability to travel globally up to 20% of the year.
