Job Description

The R&D Project Engineer will work across the Label and Graphics Materials Group businesses and functional teams (Marketing, Commercial, R&D, Procurement, Finance, and Operations) to support the R&D Graphics Product Development team to deliver the Innovation objectives in order to enable growth. The R&D Project Leader will drive successful execution of Product Development projects that will deliver a net benefit to the business by being responsible for all aspects of the execution of assigned projects including developing detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, budget, communication and status reports.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the rapid and magnificent execution of high-profile cross-functional projects
  • Conduct project meetings to ensure cross-functional teams meet or exceed anticipated project benefits timely, within budget, and with the desired level of quality
  • Identify and resolve issues proactively and balancing schedule, scope, and cost constraints creatively
  • Handle interpersonal dynamics within project teams to build consensus, negotiate changes to project plans, and hold team members accountable for delivery on commitments
  • Work effectively with internal and external clients, third party vendors, and senior management in accomplishing project objectives
  • Work with management teams to translate strategic objectives into executable projects, and to develop plans for achieving stated objectives. Provide executives with project risk assessments and summary level project status reports.
  • Build institutional knowledge by systematically collecting, detailing, and disseminating lessons learned from prior projects and initiatives
  • Integrate “best practice” tools, techniques, and frameworks from recognized industry leaders and Avery Dennison Corporate into a unified project management methodology that is custom-tailored to business needs
  • Transfer capability by: serving as role models on the projects they lead, delivering focused training as vital, and mentoring other project leaders
  • Help infuse process discipline, systems thinking, and critical tools deep into the organization thereby improving company’s capacity for effective and efficient project management. Identify and share innovative ways to reduce project implementation timeline and cost of project development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Material Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering subject area is required. 
  • A minimum of 4 years of prior project leadership experience is a plus, particularly experience using a specific methodology (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, PMI, etc.).  Familiarity with different Project Management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.) also a great plus.  
  • Excellent facilitation, relationship building, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Detail oriented; strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Comfort and confidence in interacting with / presenting to all levels in an organization, with an ability to influence effectively without authority.
  • Propensity for identifying issues proactively, making decisions with incomplete information, and driving action.
